How do starving Musicians distribute their music on the internet to get exposure?
How do starving Musicians distribute their music on the internet to get exposure?
I am looking for the sites that are the largest most popular sites. I have seen The Promo Bay and don't like how they do things.. you sign up with them and they put advertisements for you on the homepage of The Pirate Bay - an organization associated with piracy which gives them a bad reputation. They also have some restrictions I don't like.. like they want to keep control.. just like the record industries in the USA and UK. What else is out there for starving musicians or other digital artists, to promote their music? |

Thanks for the reply but that's not quite what I was looking for. Like YouTube, on Bandcamp you can listen to the songs, but you cannot download any of them unless you pay. ( at least I didn't see any for free download, I may have missed it) This limits exposure.
I was more thinking about a music torrent site where artists could choose a few songs to distribute for free to get a wider exposure. They can then direct people to the download of the album that's for sale by the artist. Only a torrent of a free song can spread like wild fire in my opinion.. it could be hosted on many torrent sites, and thus get more exposure than having to go to one site alone. Is there anything like that? |

Try SoundClick - Free MP3 music download and much, much more.
From what I see, they offer an option to download the music as well as stream it. Don't know if there are any restrictions though.

Bob, I missed the free albums.. I'll look again. Thanks.
Trollheart, SoundClick looks cool too but like Bandcamp, it's just one website. Thanks for the reply. Are there no torrent organizations for this sort of thing to get wider exposure? Here's a question for the artists. Would you, in contrast to the sites mentioned above, welcome a torrent site that's dedicated to allowing you to promote some of your songs via torrents and provide links so people can buy the songs and albums if they like your music? I think as torrents spread like wild fire through all of the torrent sites, that you would get much more exposure - but what do you artists think? |
