I think one of the main reasons that Black Rain got so much flak was due to the fact that the prince of darkness was having his albums produced by a guy who had before produced Britney Spears, which is quite funny. Though it is a good album, more consistent than Scream i thought

I'm a huge fan of Dio era Sabbath

It's just I don't really think of them as being Black Sabbath.

Having said that I actually think N.I.B. better suited to Dio's voice than Ozzy's.

Does it really matter who produced it if the music sounds good? I would've given it a chance if Justin Bieber's producer was a part of it, because it's not a Justin Bieber release, it's an Ozzy Osbourne release. Sure, it wasn't the same as his earlier stuff, but Black Rain was Ozzy's first solo release in 6 years at the time, let alone Ozzy being in his early 60's now, any album he releases in his age and still sounds good is amazing on it's own.

(that's not an attack toward you btw, i'm just commenting on the producer part)

well (i dont like to generalise) but the metalhead community isn't always the most tolerant one when it comes to changes. you know how things are

Can't say I know how things are, honestly. But...I do feel like people care too much about who was part of the album than actually listening to the album and judging it based on how it sounds.

Now that's a good reason to throw the album out before a good listening.

It does not matter, Producers can have a history of being involved in Mainstream Pop in the start mainly to get into the industry and learn how to record for today's market. A smart move if one wants to get into the technical side of things.

Actually, I think the Brittney record in question was a 2000 single that he helped out technically on, "Don't Let Me Be the Last To Know" from 2000, not actually Produced (The producer was "Mutt" Lange). There's a lot of Pop in the history of Kevin Churko that he was a part of the Engineering and Technical Help on, but actual Production-wise, he's done more Rock and Metal, including two Ozzy albums and works by Slash, Five Finger Death Punch, and In This Moment.

A-tothe-men.

The metal community is one of the least intelligent, thought-less, lemming-headed groups out there. They compete with the punk community for outright idiocy.

If they had their way, everything (and this is to a person here) would sound exactly like their favorite album. It could only change if it got more "intense." They generally feel that change is bad because we know what the ideal is, so if it ain't broke, don't fix it. It gets so bad as a matter of principle I just choose not to speak to them about music.

I just can't fathom how willed your own ignorance has to be to assume that a group of 40 somethings doing well for themselves financially would sound like they did 20 years ago when they were young, poor, and starving....idiots.
