This can happen to me very easily. It started back when I used to buy records (remember them? No, NOT CDs!) and having got into an artiste I would then buy all their material and listen to it for weeks/months. Happened with Bruce Springsteen, Genesis, Supertramp, Bob Seger and many more.
These days when I find a new artiste I do the same, and it's happened with Mostly Autumn (spent about 4 months listening to their music exclusively: had to make myself stop and move on), Ten (same thing), Arena, Kamelot and others. Yeah, once I find a band I really like, if they're that good then I'll just keep listening to them, knowing I have lots more music to listen to, but just unable to break the spell. They won't let me LIVE!.... :D :thumb::jailed: |
I never really thought about it, but I am definitely a seasonal music listener too! I tend to like more pop music in the Summer, and more introspective, folky stuff in the Winter. New stuff appeals to me more in the Summer, and that's when I get into all of the hyped up bands.

I get caught up in both genres and particular artists. I tend to burn out on artists quicker than I did when I was of a younger age. Currently obsessed
with joey bada$$ and the rest of Pro Era. |
It can get pretty ugly.

I've lost the obsession/fascination for certain genres with the passage of time (especially as I've grown up) but for genres I still fancy I dig in pretty deep. My childhood friend tried so much to turn me on to Pink Floyd (as kids) with The Wall but I never took a liking to them back then... but now I appreciate what he was trying to share and have all their albums.
When it comes to specific genres, I'll read up music/review sites, read up on all the greats of that genre and start with their best of/greatest hits album and if I like what I hear then I'll end up collecting their entire discography. But then I also have entire albums of the likes of Metallica, ACDC, Crowded House, Def Leppard, Frank Zappa, Jefferson Airplane, Judas Priest, Lynyrd Skynyrd and many more that I never listen to anymore. Perhaps one day I'll come back to them but not right now. But when I did listen to them it was heavy rotation like 15+ hours 24/7 and I ended up collecting all their albums. I guess with time we evolve and our tastes in music evolve/change too. There are some genres/artists I've not heard in over 10 years despite having all their albums. But I cannot part with them either... I still have fond memories of the time spent listening to them and never mind I don't listen to them anymore... I still cannot bring myself to gift those CDs away. This obsession is only with regard to music. I've given away my entire comic book collection, books from Hardy Boys to Robert Ludlum, and my entire DVD collection to kids in the neighborhood as I was past them... but I cannot part with my music collection. Guess its an obsession! |

I think everybody gets kinda obsessed with certain kind of music sometimes. Sort of like my little brother- but instead of music he used to get obsessed with specific movies when he was younger. I remember his Lion Kong period. I swear I got the entire movie memorized at that time lol

I don't watch much TV and watch movies rarely... only before I go to bed (rather while lying in bed I kind of doze off/wind down watching the TV). So most of my time is spent listening to music. Most of it is active but if I'm working then I still have something playing softly in the background. |
