Hello everybody
I've been craving a website that serves one simple function: to tell me when new music is coming out. I don't follow music news that much, but I have a lot of musicians and bands I listen to (as I'm sure you do) and have to periodically check wikipedia to see if they have anything new out, which can be frustrating when I find an album's been out for over a year (for example). I've looked around and can't find anything that fits the bill. I'm thinking just a simple wiki that has the details of the next album, single or EP of any artist, with an option to subscribe to updates by RSS/email if desired. Citations from wikipedia could be used. Please tell me if I'm being dumb and this already exists?? Or something similar? Or do you think it's a good idea and would use the site? cos I know exactly how I'd implement it (I'm a web designer/developer), I just don't want to put a load of effort into something that nobody cares about. I do have ideas like that sometimes... Thanks for reading this far - any feedback would be MUCH appreciated. Benedict |

Its a great idea but I think Metacritic has a list of albums being released each week. It is not complete since it does not include minor websites. This is an idea that can definitely be expanded upon. How do you plan to implement the site?

Rate Your Music already has a function like this, as does last.fm to some degree. Although it's not narrowed down to just albums, it includes EPs, singles and other stuff as well, but I find it useful to keep track of new releases from artists in my library.

I think another advantage is that there may be releases that catch your eye that you weren't previously interested in - for instance, if you've had no opinion at all of, say Maroon 5 but read in their new album description they were leaving the pop rock sound behind them and wanted to go for a folk/bluegrass sound, you'd obviously feel interested, information that subscribing only to the emails you've actively selected isn't as good. By the way op, your username is quite funny. |
