Yeah, I much preferred the buzz of the late 80's and early 90's. I can't seem to relate to modern day metal like I could then. Mind you, I was younger then (a bit) and was really into the metal scene. As I've mentioned in a previous post, I haven't exactly had my finger on the pulse for the past few years.

Modern day metal as in, today's metal bands or the sound? The sound of the 80's metal bands exists in thousands of bands of today..

The bands themselves. As I said, I may be just being too nostalgic.

I agree - there's definitely a lot more variety out there than people think. It's a shame though that people like Justin Bieber and Rhianna seem to be dominating the music world, particularly in young people, when there's so much talent out there and so many great new bands who should be getting played on the radio! Has anyone heard of [my shitty band]? They're a really new band and they're so good! They have strings and no drumkit so it's a really different sound.

If you like 80's bands? Listen to these bands and then tell me how any of them are much different? Maybe clothing style but that is pretty much it.. But who cares about looks? All I care about is the songs! As long as you are a bard, then that is what matters.. The music..

Norg 06-21-2012 06:59 PM

Are you serious with this list? I made it as far as Airbourne before I had to stop. Really, really, really poor man's rock. In some cases, the music was worse than the song titles and that's saying something. "Metal Will Stand Tall"? Dear me.

The Answer are ok, nothing special, but by far the best out of this extremely tepid bunch. The only other I'd heard of was The Darkness and they annoy the hell out of me with their wannabe-Queen sound.

It did kind of remind me of the late '80's / early '90's - bands like Warrant and The Quireboys - throwaway rock that never got anywhere near the top.

And this is the best that there is nowadays?

I'm not a big fan of the Darkness either, I always thought he had more of a Michael Jackson-like vocals though, extremely high pitched and girlish..

Well, some of the bands yes, I went from worse to best really, if you want more of a rough edge, keep listening to the list.. Or try this..

Firewind - Angels Forgive Me

Orden Ogan - Nobody Leaves

Edguy - All The Clowns

Primal Fear - Question of Honour

Freedom Call - We Are One

Enjoy.. :)

No, absolutely not, because the stuff that is actually "good" today you won't like since it is not set in the 80's.. The best stuff though in my opinion is Folk Metal is what I normally listen to although it features less guitar work since they focus more on folk instruments..

The sound or style is irrelevant. I'm yet to hear any evidence that there are bands putting out as high standard of music as the late '80's / early '90's. There were some incredibly good albums released during that period and there doesn't seem to be any now. I really do hope that there are, as it would be very worrying if there wasn't.
