I hate that kind of music as well. I agree with you 100 percent. Pure trash! |

I can't help but agree with Space Cowboy's opening post. The vast majority of today's music is throwaway pop trash that seems to regurgitate itself in a thousand different names and faces. There's nothing unique in any of it.
Unfortunately, at least in the UK, almost all of the radio stations use this music is fodder for the masses, blatantly ignoring anything that doesn't get into the UK charts. Unless people i.e. the listeners are inquisitive enough to explore the music world (which, generally speaking, they don't seem to be), they remain oblivious to anything other than the repetitive crap radio stations spew out. And so they suck it up and it all goes round in one big festering whirlpool of utter mediocrity. |

The speed of the evolution of music naturally increases with each cycle, the frayed ends of each branch of the tree are always producing fruit - heralding new genre busters and pioneers - it's an exciting time - music has never been so democratic and easy to share, that said - there is an awful lot of half arsed, synthesised, shall we put a bit of snare in?, mass produced lowest common denominator, cash-based agenda drivel out there

I am one of those people who holds the opinion that music was better in the 50s-70s, and even earlier with all the great jazz musicians and blues musicians, but is there still good music and music that is Better than the music of old? Of course. I think the biggest difference is that popular music has completely gone to ****. Ya, there has always been bad popular music, but back in the day some of the biggest hits on the radio were great, and these days its all formulaic garbage.
I don't think it's so much that music has gotten worse, it's that peoples taste in music has gotten worse, and it's more of a high dollar industry than it used to be. There are more people out there just trying to make a buck. Another thing, I don't think music is as innovative as it use to be. There arent as many ground breakers these days. For me since mainstream music sucks today, it is time to look for other places to find some beautiful music. I have been lucky to find a few new music. It is great.

When you put It like that it sounds too broad. I mean popular radio music has become more formulaic and centered around money than it used to be. There really aren't any true artists in it. Producers and managers know the formula of a hit pop musician, and that's what they look for. And there are plenty of people who are willing to conform to that formula. Not saying that it has never been like this, its just gotten worse. And I'm not saying all music today works like this, that certainly isn't the case.
