Wasn't too fond of this record. It's good, but certainly not as good as I expected.

I think I listened to it three times in a week with the hopes that part of it would stick in my memory, and you know what it hasn't.
I'm still meandering on my List. Waiting until everyone else gets there's in so I can listen to anything worthwhile I've missed. Obviously I take some people's opinions seriously and others with a pinch of salt.

sidewinder 01-07-2013 06:35 PM

I've held off a bit on posting my Top 10, because I wanted to do a little write-up on each. But I haven't had the time and don't see that I will in the immediate future, so I'll just post the list for now. If anyone is interested in my thoughts on anything in particular I'm happy to respond. But for now, here's the list. As always, there's plenty more I've yet to discover in 2012 so it's subject to change as time passes. Might as well commit to it for now, as every time I post it somewhere I tend to question it. Who cares, right?

1. Yeasayer - Fragrant World
2. Woods - Bend Beyond
3. Tame Impala - Lonerism
4. Disappears - Pre Language
5. Alt-J - An Awesome Wave
6. Why? - Mumps, Etc.
7. Mouse on Mars - Parastrophics
8. Sunken Foal - Friday Syndrome Vol. 1

Yeah, you're usually good for an indie recommendation. There's one list from someone I'm still waiting for after that, I should have a good idea of all the records I missed in 2012. Listen to them, and compare them to the ones I am already aware of.
I should have an AOTY list out by around March

I listened to it a few times and thought it was pretty spectacular. Though, my line for what I expect from them may be a bit lower than most seeing as I've never really been a HUGE fan. It's not that I don't like them, I just haven't taken the time to really dive into their music.

El Camino was released in Dec. 2011. One of my top 10 from 2011 tho.

Now you have room to add Bob Dylan's Tempest to your list. :)

Sorry, the list was from a forum where 2012 was counted december through december :p: Father John Misty - Fear Fun would be nr. 10

God I love that album so much. Most unappreciated gem of 2012

I think it's highly inconsistent. There are 3-4 really great songs, 3-4 really awful songs, and the rest are mediocre. It's too bad because I really want to like it more (and I do enjoy it more than any Fleet Foxes stuff). Maybe he'll pull off a more solid one next time.

Which songs are good, which are awful? I happen to love each track.

This is what I put in my RYM review:

The good:
Nancy From Now On ****
Hollywood Forever Cemetery Sings *****
O I Long to Feel Your Arms Around Me ****
This Is Sally Hatchet ****

The bad:
Writing a Novel *
Well, You Can Do It Without Me *
Now I'm Learning to Love the War **
Tee Pees 1-12 *
Everyman Needs a Companion **

The "just nice enough":
Funtimes in Babylon ***
Misty's Nightmares 1 & 2 ***
Only Son of the Ladiesman **

Some of the songs could move from the bad category to the "just good enough" category if not for the awful lyrics.

To each his own I suppose, I happen to love each track. They're playing at Bonnaroo this year. I'm super stoked.
