Default What music do your parents/siblings like?

We are all open about what music we like, so why don't we learn about what our families like as well? Lol, that's basically why I made this thread, I find it interesting.

Bonus Question(s): Do you like the music your families listen to and do they like the music you listen to?

My mom's music is a bit of a hit or miss thing, and hard to explain. Her music catalogue encompasses music from the 60s to today, but really mainly specific artists/genres. She likes some classic rock such as The Beatles, Pink Floyd, Led Zeppelin, The Rolling Stones and The Who. Moving into the 70s, she likes some disco (ABBA, Donna Summer), she's really into 80s pop and soft rock as well (REO Speedwagon, Supertramp, Madonna, Michael Jackson, 80s has beens/one-hit wonders). In the 90s, it was mainly adult contemporary/pop/soft-rock artists (Sarah MacLachlan, Sheryl Crow, Celine Dion), moving into pop an R&B in the 2000s (Enrique Iglesias, Maroon 5, Lady Gaga, Shakira, Nelly).

She also has a soft spot for Latin music as well.

My dad listens to mainly Croatian folk and pop/rock music.

My 14 year old sister likes tweeny pop rock/pop punk bands like NeverShoutNever, Marianas Trench, Plain White Ts, A Rocket To The Moon, Panic! At The Disco, Paradise Fears).

Everyone in my family hates my music...they all think it's weird...
My mom's more classic rock oriented side was where my musical preferences blossomed, though.

So what DO you like?

My dad likes grungy stuff, some country, and Carlos Santana. He doesn't really listen to music, but he appreciates virtuoso guitarists.

My mom likes soul, r&b, adult contemporary, some southern rock, some classic rock, the Beatles.

One brother likes terrible radio hip hop, and older metal stuff. The other likes anything with a great bassist in it. Aside from that, jazz fusion, thrash metal, classic rock.

You're gonna laugh when you hear this, but my mom, my uncle, his wife and I were all sitting around the TV looking up music videos of old artists they knew from the 80s (well, they did and I just watched). So I asked for a turn and I put on Bone Machine by the Pixies and my mom complained that it was too weird... :P

I think I already told you what music I liked. Didn't you post in my introduction thread? I think I also found out about Clutch from you.

My mom really doesn't like the music I like...other than the few bands we have in common. I think it's because she has not heard of many of the bands that I listen to.

My whole family all listens to the same range, pretty much- classic rock, blues, and classical. When I was a teenager I did get a little more into grunge, though, and that's my favorite genre to actually play.

My dad likes everything from Rod Stewart and The Eagles to Graham Nash, Bob Dylan, Fleetwood Mac, and The Allman Brothers. My mom is partial to mainly Joni Mitchell, James Taylor, and Carly Simon. My one brother likes pretty much whatever is on the radio, the other one likes Rock (Foo Fighters and Seether and whatever else), and my sister shares a lot of similarities with me (especially EDM). I tend to send her music I listen to. She mainly likes soft/pretty stuff, so she's not crazy about any of the metal or aggressive genres.

My mom's musical taste is pretty to-the-point in my eyes. Her favorites are Rod Stewart, Elton John, Journey, Queen, Bryan Adams, Nirvana, and stuff like that. She's also a fan of pretty much any contemporary music which might top the charts. She digs a lot of Pitbull, fun., and stuff like that, with a soft spot for Waylon Jennings, Patsy Cline, Loretta Lynn, George Jones, and that sort of country, in addition to anything CeeLo Green has ever touched.

My dad is bizarre. He seems most to enjoy AC/DC, Blondie, Cher, Waylon Jennings, The BeeGees, Eminem, 2Pac, Bone Thugs, and various and sundry other artists.

My 21-year-old sister most loves Taking Back Sunday, Brand New, MxPx, The Spill Canvas, and a lot of pop acts.

My 14-year-old sister most loves One Direction, Nicki Minaj, Pitbull, Green Day, Bruno Mars, Lady Gaga, Cee-Lo, and other radio pop.

My grandmother mostly likes The Beatles, Bruce Springsteen, The Who, The Ramones, The Clash, Queen, Simon & Garfunkel, and that sort of thing, with a strange fascination with Lady Gaga.

My tastes are probably more closely aligned with my grandmother's, but there's still not a whole lot of overlap.

You fortunate soul. You've a father with pretty fantastic musical taste.

Your mother's not to shabby either.

My mom likes a lot of pop country (her favorite band's Rascal Flatts), Celine Dion and Josh Groban. All that I know about my dad's taste in music is that he liked a lot of country songs from the 1940s. My brother (who might be the only person in my family that doesn't mind my music collection) doesn't listen to anything that isn't labeled as "classic rock" or if it's not a popular metal band from the 70s and 80s. His favorite artists are AC/DC, Motorhead, Boston and Metallica.
