My mom's favorite group was the Beatles. She was a teenager in San Francisco in the 60s, and that was the big thing.

Other groups she played a lot growing up were Queen, Led Zeppelin, George Thorogood, Steely Dan, Metallica, The Eagles, Dave Matthews Band.

Pretty great place for me to start if I don't say so myself.

Anyways, that guy. He also listens to the current wave of American symphonic music. He's also a lifelong Dream Theater fan, and listens to far-ends of the prog metal spectrum, all the way from DT down to Messhuggah. Also into the Roots and other underground hip-hop. Truly though, he's one of the few people that can truly say he likes all types of music. A paragraph can't do it justice. However, he can be pretty hipster and anti-4/4 about it, though, which ticks off every one else.

Nice. I wonder what it would be like to live with a hardcore intellectual music fan. Don't know whether it would be more enlightening or annoying. Probably a bit of both!

My dad is an avid bluegrass/old-school country fan. He's also into a lot of the rock from the 50's, 60's, and 70's. My mother is a bit more varied... she likes country, some old rock, a little jazz, and one time I caught her listening to Coolio's 'Gangsta's Paradise'.

My parents were/are super eclectic and always encouraged me to listen to music. Dad liked country and bluegrass and The Beach Boys and mom liked show tunes, Martin Denny, The Beatles, and anything Latin or Exotic. In those days, everybody did a Latin album...

They even bought me a crappy little stereo when I was 5 so I would leave theirs alone. Of course, I immediately started stealing their records. To this day I still have some crazy favorites like Jim Kweskin's Jug Band and the Broadway soundtrack to Man of La Mancha because of their influence. The 60's were a very eclectic time for music.
