My mother's got an obnoxious taste for Christian gospel-y stuff though she has retained some amount of taste as evident in her love for 60s pop. Dad's a metalhead, loves rock as well. My young sister's a great kid; she's into the Beatles and basically anything else I went through at her age (she loves 80s pip for some reason, and a lot of German music) - we used to sing to Sparks in the car back in the day. It'd get her pumped for her day at school. I guess I'm related to some pretty decent humans.

My mom:
My father: My brother: My families music taste in a nutshell. My mom doesn't really like music at all, my dad did really like ****ty radio country, not sure about now. I like my brother's taste in hip hop and dubstep for the most part, but he still really likes **** like Tech N9ne, Lil Wayne, Drake, and doesn't really listen to anything other than rap and dubstep. |

the music i like is the same music my parents used to listen to when it first came out.. whenever i listen to it now they say "turn that **** up" Especially when i play the beatles because my mother would always play the beatles for me as a bby when i was inside her stomach.. so the beatles connect with us on a whole different level. now with my father we always like 2 discover new music ..he's really into jimi hendrix, david bowie and the kinks as well so when i put their music on his ipod i put all their **** that way he discovers gems and albums that he over looked decades ago (thanks to technology he finds them again/ comes across them..) and he shows me stuff i never heard of and eventually grow to love...it's an awesome experience for the both of us. |

Hmm. Let's see:
My dad is a music fiend. He's into classic rock like Metallica, Pink Floyd, Led Zeppelin, Aerosmith, Rush, The Rolling Stones, The Doors, The Who, CCR, Jimi Hendrix, Deep Purple, The Eagles, ELO, Janis Joplin, Journey; Soul like Mariah Carey, Stevie Wonder, Marvin Gaye, The Jackson 5/ the Jacksons/ Michael Jackson, Smokey Robinson, Al Green, Aretha Franklin, The O'Jays; Funk like Prince, James Brown, Earth, Wind & Fire, Kool & The Gang... and Christian/ Gospel music like Keith Green, Casting Crowns and NewWorldSon. And a lot more... Basically, if it's up to his standards quality wise, he likes it. But he tends not to stray outside the mainstream. He thinks my taste is interesting, but weird. lol. My mom likes a lot of R&B and especially vocal jazz. She is/was into stuff like En Vogue, Soul II Soul, Janet Jackson, Paula Abdul; and also vocal jazz like Norah Jones, Nat King Cole and Natalie Cole, Ella Fitzgerald, and others. When I was growing up, she loved Adult Contemporary music, especially Alanis Morissette, Sheryl Crow, The Goo Goo Dolls, The Barenaked Ladies etc. and singer-songwriters like Sinead O'Connor and Suzanne Vega, as well as Amy Grant. My mom really loves music, but isn't as opinionated as the rest of the family. She listens for therapy, mostly to the jazz station, but gets tired out of music easily. My 17 year old sister likes mostly Christian music, singer-songwriter, "teen" music and R&B singers. She's into Katharine McPhee (since before Smash), Jully Black, Stacie Orrico, Eva Avila, Rachael Lampa, Aly & AJ, Selena Gomez, Brooke Fraser, Rebecca St. James, and Elizabeth & the Catapult. She's a singer. We get along really well, and while I don't like everything she does, we can listen to each others' music easily, and have a mutual appreciation. She's a loyal listener, so she dedicates her attention to specific artists and follows their personal journeys. My 12 year old brother likes most of the Funk and Soul my dad likes, especially Al Green, Stevie Wonder and James Brown. He's into the popular names of today, like Hedley, LMFAO, Bruno Mars, Cee Lo Green, Eminem, Usher, K'naan..., and Christian stuff like GRITS, Switchfoot, and TobyMac. I don't like most of what he likes, but hey, everyone has their own taste. My 10 year old sister is still undecided. |

As of years ago...
My father likes 50's and 60's rock 'n' roll. I've never seen my mother show much interest in listening to music. One brother likes upbeat 80's pop, hair metal, rap, probably not adult contemporary. Another brother likes metal. |

My brother is a classical musician, so he listens to a lot of that. He would probably correct me on this, but at one point or another I think he pointed out Mussorgsky, Bach, and... who's the guy who taught Elgar who wrote pretty bizarre music in comparison? Anyways, that guy. He also listens to the current wave of American symphonic music. He's also a lifelong Dream Theater fan, and listens to far-ends of the prog metal spectrum, all the way from DT down to Messhuggah. Also into the Roots and other underground hip-hop. Truly though, he's one of the few people that can truly say he likes all types of music. A paragraph can't do it justice. However, he can be pretty hipster and anti-4/4 about it, though, which ticks off every one else.
My sister listens to bands like Coheed and Cambria, Nightwish, and 3, as well as a lot of Rise Against-ish pop-punk. She's also a giant Primus fan. My mother likes, really anything with a folky flavor or any rock that she can dance to. She's a giant World Party and Traffic fan, and even listens to some lighter metal/hard rock (f.e. Black Sabbath, Guns 'N Roses). My father likes, primarily stuff like The Cure, Talking Heads, and English Beat, as well as 70s jam-rock like the Almond Brothers. Then there's me. I listen to 90s hip-hop, a small amount of metal, a lot of stuff on the line between rock and metal, which I think I got from my Mom, a decent amount of dubstep and other EDM, and, as a guitarist, a lot of guitar-oriented stuff. (I basically converted my entire family to Bucketheadism.) |
