In fact, the only thing in the top 100 that stands out to me is that Kid A made a huge leap (and rightfully so). Why they choose The Bends over OKC is beyond me though, I mean, The Bends is awesome and nearly perfect, but OKC is definitely a step above that. Overall, I don't see a lot of special or surprising stuff around anyways. Then I'd rather take Pitchfork, while sometimes they are a bit doubtful, they do present some less known bands.
they arent over-rated it's just most of their albums are flawless but it does suprise me that "white album" is on their top 10..
and kid a is my favorite album by radiohead but i do admit that the bends is better and most people would rather listen to that then kid a. okc is another masterpiece but it's the 3rd best radiohead album imo.

Rolling Stone have been out of touch with what's important in the world of music for many years, and I believe is seen more as the mouthpiece of the establishment than any sort of free press; basically, it tries to tell you "this is cool so you should like it and if you don't, well you're stupid because we know more about this than you."

No respect for them, at all. I'd rather see a listing run by "Hot Press", one of our premier Irish music mags. At least they don't take themselves too seriously, and know what they're talking about. "Kerrang!" also used to do very good lists. Hell, I'd believe "Smash hits" before this pompous shower of armholes. Well, maybe not.

I generally don't care about lists like this. Rolling Stone is a mainstream publication, it's not there to represent any sort of diversity within musical tastes.

On Kanye, his first two albums are deservedly listed ahead of MBDTF, because they are far superior.

I don't know who specifically compiled this list (music reviewers? Other musicians?), however the problem with "greatest album lists" is that more often or not they are artist based rather than album based. Before the list was compiled, it was probably decided by the powers than be, that The Beatles, Zeppelin etc would have 10 slots allocated to them.

I just picked up the magazine yesterday. Take my money, Rolling Stone, but damn you for capitalizing on my weakness to arbitrary rankings of music albums!

I was disappointed to see the White Album still so damn high up. I just don't think it's THAT great when compared to a lot of the albums that rank lower than it. Also, that concentration of Beatles in the top 10 is just crazy. At least Let It Be is out of the top 100. That always bugged me in the old list.

Kind of disappointed to see Robert Johnson's Complete Recordings take the place of both of the King of the Delta Blues albums. I understand why they did it, but the original King of the Delta Blues always seemed to be truly 'great' because it was how so many of the people first heard his music. Obviously that's not how they are ranking it, but at least with the old list I could pretend they were.

The only other addition that was really a triumph for me was seeing Sleater-Kinney's Dig Me Out appear somewhere in the 270s. I'm just a fan so that was cool to me, I suppose.

It's still Rolling Stone and I can't get over the feeling that they are trying to sell me that the Beatles, Bob Dylan and every major artist of the 60s and 70s were perfect beings, but I still found it to be very entertaining to look through. Even if the order is questionable, nearly all the albums on the list are great in some capacity, right?
