The ONE Song
i dont want a top 5, i dont want a top 10, i dont want a list of any sort. i want your greatest song, the song that you couldnt imagine life without. the song that sends shivers down your spine every time you hear it, your surroundings get lost in it. plus, i want the reasons why its your most favourite song ever.
ok mine, as you can guess its a zeppelin song. sorry to all of you who are fed up with it but stairway to heaven is the greatest IMO. i dont care for all this critisism of it, "overrated", "fed up with hearing about it" blah blah, it simply is a class song. the way it encompasses 3 genres of music- starts as a ballad, turns to soft rock then finishes with an all-guns-blazing aural assault of heavy rock. just class. ok, im done- yours? |
Finch - Awake
I know, so many people say how this song is nothing special.. But to me, it is. This is just the ultimate song for me, there is nothing this good... Every time I hear it I get completely involved in the music, its as if Im right there with them when theyre playing... Every single sound in that song is perfect, theres not a single noise out of place. The song just.. carries you off, and takes you away. Youre jsut completely connected with the music, every emotion you hear, you feel.... |
ok...i don't have a single favourite song from all the music i have...i doesn't work like that for me...but the song that impressed me the most recently is interpol - take you on a cruise...it gives me goosebumbs every time i hear it...but you have to play it super loud, otherwise you don't get the full feel...
( acouple of months ago it was keane -everybody's changing...it changes every now and then for me...) |
sevendust- acoustic version of Black
|
i would have to say "Bohemeian Rhaspody" by Queen. freddie mercury's vocals throughout the entire song are awesome, and the whole choir-arrangement thing he does is equally awesome. this song starts out a quiet ballad , then rolls into an a very upbeat and driving middle, then snowballs its way to hard rock with a brian may driven guitar solo, and in its final moments degresses its way into a ballad, just as it begun.

I think my favourite siong must be Redemption Song by Bob Marley, even the cover by Joe Strummer and the Mescaleros was great. It narrowly beats One Week by The Barenaked Ladies.
|
Scorpions - STILL LOVING YOU
First post, and bringing it back from the dead. |
it's impossible to answer this. I like about 50 different songs the same.
|
This War Is Ours - Escape The Fate
Months ago it had been Injection by Rise Against. I can listen to Stairway constantly though lol. |
zero7 - "Destiny"
|
"El Matador" by Los Fabulosos Cadillacs. For me this song has everything. Structure-wise it has a perfect arrangement of mellower parts flowing into anthemic parts and creates an incredible amount of tension and build. And it has those great vocals that make you want to shout along but that also have a little undercurrent of sadness too. Plus it has a beat that just makes you want to shake your ass and one of the most killer basslines ever. But most of all it has such power, it's like an elephant crashing through a city. I've seen it live too and I have to say I have never seen a song make a crowd move the way this one does.
Unfortunately YouTube has disabled the embedding on this one but you can still check it out if you click this link: YouTube - LOS FABULOSOS CADILLACS - Matador |

There's no one song which stands head and shoulders above everything else, as I could probably name about 50 as well. One I've been listening to a hell of a lot recently though is Tuesday Morning by the Pogues. It's basically got everything I like in a pop song - terrific melody, well-conceived lyrics, some great vocal harmonies and, of course, very well-written instrumental parts (being the Pogues and all). Very unusual song for the Pogues. They aren't exactly known for writing pop songs after all.

Sigur Ros - Untitled 8 ("Popplagið")
Sweeping soundscapes, incredible drum breakdowns, beautiful vocals. It's perfection. |
Pink Floyd - Dogs. I was only listening to this yesterday for the umpteenth time and it has every single thing I like in music and I never ever get tired of playing this song.
|
Can - Paperhouse
this video makes me giggle but it's quality stuff nonetheless: |
Oddly enough for me, I'm going to have to say Blink 182 - Dammit, though the cover System of a down did (i think its them, may just be serj) was amazing, i still love the beat and its fun to play slowed down
|
hallelujah- jeff buckley

Because it's so damn hard to pick on song, this following song is like representation of my teenage angst as I had this on repeat 1241234235 times.
Rolling Stones - Paint It Black. |
Guaranteed - Eddie Vedder
Just Eddie Vedder and his acoustic guitar. What more can you ask for? |
Tunnel of Love - Dire Straits, and yes i'm used to the abuse of being a Dire Straits fan!

Photograph-Def Leppard
Haha, song and video rocks. |
Mad Season's "Long Gone Day" live. That song recently became my all time favorite. Layne Staley's vocals added to jazz and the grunge feel just makes that song incredible.

I have to give my favorite to Jimi Hendrix" 'Tis funny, Matt Bellamy's biggest influence is (maybe "was" now) Jimi. You might want to check out their early stuff ;) /whoring out Muse |

Man, that's a hard one.
I think I'm gonna have to go with Radiohead - Street Spirit (Fade Out). No matter where I am or what I'm doing, every time I hear that song I want to close my eyes and get lost in it. I never get tired of hearing it, either, it's just as haunting and good as the first listen. |
The Greatest song of all time = 'Festival Of The Circumcision' from an album I have called African Tribal Music & Dances.
I believe you all agree. Its on 'ReeeeeellllllRadiioooo' all the time man.. |
mgmt kids :D

Because 3 is the magic number, and these songs are practically one:
Ludwig van Beethoven's Piano Sonatas 14, 23, and 8: Moonlight, Apassionata, and Pathetique. |
