Listening to music while eating is kind of a moot point for me. Like most people here I think I have music on at every possible moment I am awake. Matter of fact I fall asleep every night listening to music as well.

I'd say, at least 90% of everything I listen to comes through headphones. I also hate earbuds with a passion so I only ever get full sized, over-the-ear headset coverage. It does not create a happy combo for chewing food or gum etc.
Eating is one of the few times where I'll actually watch tv of sorts (finished Archer recently, and finally moved onto Metalocalypse). |

Just starting Metalocalypse? Season 1 is amazing. The concept is great. I'm excited to see season 4 whenever but 2 and 3 were a bit of a let down after season 1. Quote:
Kill the television Forget the family Get some headphones No problem. How about "What's everyone's official opinion on blasting music at 100% in a confined public space, with headphones or say ghetto blasting it out of a cellphone while on a bus or something." Ok you're gonna need to word that better, but something like that. I'm the guy with my headphones on, but it's so loud the people in my radius can all clearly hear every word and all the instrumentation. I know it ticks some people off. What I find annoying is when there's someone without headphones blasting tunes off their cellphone or back in the day a boombox |

I don't listen to music much when I eat. I'm usually watching TV and there's usually a game on that I am interested in, and I can't get the full appreciation for the game without hearing what's going on as well as watching.

Dear god, I hate people like you. Nothing annoys me more than people in a library or computer lab just blasting music through their headphones. No need for it, and extremely annoying. Usually the same people who talk loudly and over-laugh at semi-funny jokes. |

If I make a nice dinner and have guests over or something I'll put music on, usually something mellowish; I like Ludovico Einaudi and Billy Holiday for these occasions in particular. I have music on while I do most everything else though, including cooking and cleaning up. But most of the time when I'm alone I read while I'm eating, so I'll turn all sound off. I am strongly opposed to having the tv on.

If I do have company, more emphasis is placed on conversation. So, No. No music is my option.
More often than not, it's this. Sounds boring, but solitude isn't really a bad thing. Some of my best moments were on my own and with a book (hope that doesn't sound overtly self-indulging..). Usually also accompanied by wine. |

As for your 2nd comment. I've been guilty of being the one to force others to hear my music, it's kind of a 'feature' to open ear headphone design (and SO MUCH more comfortable than closed ear). The thing is I normally don't realize how loud it actually is to the people around me until I see their mouths move but don't hear anything but my music. Though I don't think that's nearly as annoying as cell phone DJs. Yes I can see that you have a smartphone, OH WOW! you have the latest Eminem single on there and you're going to show me how cool you are by letting me hear it through a crappy phone speaker? You shouldn't! REALLY THOUGH. You should not. But the worse, the ABSOLUTE worse I've had to deal with in a public situation like that is someone who uses earbuds with their phone so only they can hear whatever song they want to hear... but they'll sing along, except they can't really sing, and where they're not whispering either it just kind of comes out. No definition in the lyrics, no tone in the voice, just half hearted, half spoken 'signing'... she got eyes... of the bluest. skies... and if. they, thought of rain... I'd. Hate to look. Into those eyes. And see, an ounce of pain. If only their mouth was as considerate. |
