Music and clothing don't really hold any sort of parallel to me. Maybe it's a side-effect of being an adult.. I don't know. When I was a teen I was what people would term a "skater kid", which was mostly about the skater sub-culture aspect at the time, and we all listened to mostly Punk, but we definitely didn't go around sporting mohawks and wearing leather. It was more practical to be a skateboarder with baggy jeans, skate shoes and old tee shirts with the sleeves cut off.
Now, I'm just a normal adult who wears ordinary, comfortable clothing. Whether some of the tastes I held when I was a teen carried over, it's nothing to do with music taste I had, nor the tastes I have now. I don't see a need for there to be a parallel at all. |

I still dress like a metalhead generally but I always have loved T shirts anyhow and wear them all year round and with the crappy weather we have over here ATM I am always in my leather jacket. I always wear skater type trainers because the designs are better than ordinary trainers and I find them far more comfortable with the wider fitting so people are surprised when I talk about other types of music or actually have an opinion on other subjects outside of music. It does mean that people probably see me in a certain way but I just find jeans, t-shirts and trainers more comfortable so it may not be who I really am but I have zero fashion sense anyhow so balls to it.
It's kind nice to confound people's expectations once they get talking to me.

For me basically everyone gets shocked when I tell them what I listen to. As a teen I dressed quite skankily but was always considered a 'brain'. I would tell someone that I was listening to heavy metal and alternative and their mouths dropped. These days I wear tight fitting but classy clothes for work and street/chic everywhere else. With that and my blonde hair everyone assumes I'm a ditz and would be a top40 girl. If they do bother to ask I explain my large variety of music tastes and surprise surprise they are amazed.

People judge what a person is like or what they are into, a lot by the clothes they wear. For me though, the way I am kind of reflects the music I am into.
