opposite for me

DB is like a quintessential 90s AOR album by a former complex prog band, much like Genesis' We Can't Dance

AMLOR is like trying to hold on to past glories, but it didn't gel without Waters

It's not that Division Bell is bad or anything, I just didn't hear any real Pink Floyd in it. I'm always under the impression that Pink Floyd were not really that great until Roger Waters joined. Anything before the time of Waters is just irrelevant.

Don't forget that "Wish You Were Here" (as an entire album) was mostly in dedication to Syd.

yeah and i love it just because it doesn't sound like a typical Pink Floyd album

Yeah, though unfortunately that's not an album that gets a lot of spins as other Floyd albums. The track Wish You Were Here is one of my favorites for the sheer fact of how emotional it is.

I'll try to give it another listen from a non Pink Floyd perspective in that case. Perhaps that may change my opinion on it.

I found both of them to really be David Gilmour albums that took away from Pink Floyd's sound, myself. Both Momentary Lapse of Reason and The Division Bell have several beautiful moments but I still find it hard to see it as a Pink Floyd album.

Many songs from that album get a ton of radioplay (Wish You Were Here, a little bit of Shine On You Crazy Diamond, Have a Cigar, etc.) and it's less ignored than the later albums (The Final Cut, Division Bell, etc.) so I don't know. That's a little bold.

The title track is a killer though; it's been a long time since I've been able to hear it and not cry.

I'll be fair and say that I imagine first time Floyd listeners tend to listen to Wish You Were Here as one of their first Floyd albums because it has more...familiar songs. In another case, there are people who start off with Dark Side of The Moon which really doesn't make any sense to me. If anything, Dark Side of The Moon should be one of the less popular albums. Not that it's bad or anything, but personally, I wouldn't recommend it as a starter.

Too much hype over DSOTM; if you go into a band/album with expectations you acquired from their fanbase or general popularity you're bound to be disappointed.

Pretty much. It's like the way it is for ACDC fans and saying that Back In Black is their best work. It's not a terrible album, but certainly not their best.
