Point is. This is a thread I made for the 100 artists I love or hate, not a free for all for people to continue on with my countdown. So stop. It seems to be obvious to pretty much everybody else on this forum.

#92: Jon Anderson (vocalist / solo)

• His range. His style.
• I enjoy watching the Yes acoustic set on Youtube specifically to see how Anderson sounds. His voice may be a little whispy, but it's still great.
• Animation is possibly one of the greatest albums i've ever heard.
• He does the 80's style of music very very well.

Well the whiny singing by Billy Corgan is not everybody's cup of tea and if you don't like the vocals, all that's left are the instrumentals to enjoy really.

I agree, Piper at the Gates of Dawn is one of the most overrated albums of the 1960s and if you don't enjoy it, you probably won't enjoy Syd's solo stuff much either, which is all rather patchy as the bloke was totally off his rocker by that stage. As far as A Saucerful of Secrets is concerned, Syd was only on about 2 or 3 songs anyway.

Jon Anderson falls into the same category as Geddy Lee as a vocalist, you either dig them or not, but both are instantly recognizable.

"Jugband Blues" was certainly the most Syd song off that album.

What's your take on Jon Anderson as a solo artist?

Could never get into his solo stuff, neither his stuff with Vangelis either. I find the different components of Yes work much better as a cohesive whole. The only solo album by a Yes member that I ever liked, was by bassist Chris Squire on his debut album.

That's easily understandable. Going from the technical proggy'ness of Yes as a whole to Jon Anderson solo isn't an easy thing to do comfortably. It personally took me a few spins of Animation to realize that it's not a Yes with Jon Anderson album, it's just a Jon Anderson album. He went for more of an 80's thing with his solo work, which i've come to enjoy a lot. But nothing can replace what i've come to love with Yes.

Yeah, Syd's Pink Floyd is an entirely different animal than their mainstream rush. What's your opinion on Pink Floyd when it was headed by David Gilmour? By this I mean A Momentary Lapse of Reason and The Division Bell.

I didn't so much like The Division Bell but I have listened to A Momentary Lapse quite a few times and enjoyed it.
