The most powerful song
What is the most powerful song, for you personally? When I say this, I mean; what stirs the most emotion and provokes thoughts that you might not normally think.

I have known and loved this song since my obsession with music began six years ago (before I was even a fan of The Velvet Underground). Every time I play this song I get chills and I usually start tearing up. Why? It's gorgeous and conveys so much fucking emotion and meaning with very few words and notes. I don't care about the reputation, hype, or influence of this band. I just care about the music, and to me... this is one of the most important songs I have ever listened to. It (as well as the album it comes from) has not only dramatically effected my taste in music, but also still moves me to this day. Of course, it is impossible for me to choose a favorite song (or even album or artist), but as far as the (personal) importance of this band, song, and album goes... this easily takes the cake. There are also very few songs that hit me as hard as this one does for such a long time... |

For me it's a tie. Both of these songs have a lot of meaning to me, but different connotations.
Elliott Smith will always hold a special place in my heart. I started listening to him during a fragile part of my life, so anytime I listen to him now it's very emotional. As a listener this is what music is all about for me - creating something to which people can attach and assign their own meaning. King's Crossing is the song that will always give me chills and make me tear up, and every time I listen to it I'm reminded of where I was and what I was doing the first time I heard it. Also, fun fact: I never listen to it in front of other people. Atmosphere is important to me in a similar way but in a different context. The lyrics are beautiful and I feel like this is a song I can apply to different situations - f.ex. I have songs I listen to when I feel angry, lonely, sad, happy, lost, etc., and this is a track I can turn to in all of those states of mind. |

The Incredible String Band - Maya - YouTube The Incredible String Band's songs hit me pretty hard. I'm not exactly sure why, but I kind of tear up during this song. There's something about the peace and the rural attitude in this song, probably rooted in my deep desire to be elsewheres in life. somewheres more simplistic, rather than being chased for my bad marks and inattentiveness in class. I can see why BoC respect these guys so much. okay I'll shut up about the ISB now. |

Songs become powerful or remain powerful on an emotional level as a direct result of your personal circumstances at any given time and whilst we can all relate to this massively I find it very difficult to post particular songs sometimes without feeling like a total emotional wreck and even reply to previous posts because those songs mean something very specific to those people.
This is something that I have eventually learned over the years. I could play a track right now that will bring me to tears within a minute but to an outsider it may not register at all. However if it's a thread to just get it all out there then I applaud it.

Pink Floyd - Careful With That Axe Eugene (live-ummagumma)
because ive seen at least a dozen people freak out and jump when the scream comes in, and as roger waters said it best "the only thing important about what music is what moves you" as for emotionally, i usually find random songs that only come up once on alternative radio to be the most powerful, and when i look them up later the feeling is lost, i dont attach myself to songs in that way |
