Wow, I'm really digging the tracks that Engine and Folkslave put up. Definitely looking into these artists.

I've been digging this comp I happened upon of klezmer from 1911-1939. Pretty good stuff. Here's one of the tracks:

Well I usually consider old-timey to pre 50s, but it looks like most of this is pre 40s. Love me some Robert Johnson, Delmore Brothers, Carter Family, Sonny Boy I & II, Louis Jordan and Jimmie Rodgers. Lots more, but those are some of my personal favorites.

Roots genres are as good as any music for sure.

Yep. Like I said in the OP I'm looking for late 19th century/early 20th century music here.

I also got an early jazz comp recently and am loving "Panama" by the Friars Society Orchestra. When I think "old timey" this is exactly the kind of thing I want to hear:

Absolutely one of the best Skip James was. RE a previous post...Charley Patton was, of course, Delta Blues royalty.
At the risk of turning this into a Delta Blues thread here's a Tommy Johnson number. Note his badass high-top fade

But no, this thread is bigger than Delta Blues so here's something else..
Fletcher Henderson - Variety Stomp

And here's a beautiful example of how white people in the 1920s stole the idea of Jazz from black people in the 1920s.
Bix Beiderbecke and the Wolverines - Fidgety Feet

I'm borderline fetishistic about this musical era so I hope and pray that this thread stays alive forever.
