Goofle 02-27-2012 04:44 PM

The list is pretty woeful, but it's got all the obvious mainstream ones in there.

jackhammer 02-27-2012 05:32 PM

Yet another list compiled by people who only listen to music in their car or pop on to do the washing up.

Could not give 2 shits.

Urban Hat€monger ? 02-27-2012 06:14 PM

I've never heard any of these artists.
Which albums should I start with?

Green Day - American Idiot. It's a masterpiece of underground nihilism.

Urban Hat€monger ? 02-27-2012 06:37 PM

Status Quo should be higher

Urban Hat€monger ? 02-27-2012 06:59 PM

Shampoo should be higher

Paedantic Basterd 02-27-2012 06:59 PM

I'm past that stage in music fandom where lists like this outrage me.

Urban Hat€monger ? 02-27-2012 07:06 PM

2 Unlimited should have been higher.

Urban Hat€monger ? 02-27-2012 07:11 PM

Because they're shit?

Franco Pepe Kalle 02-27-2012 07:12 PM

I disagree. I like this list. I mean the Beatles are the ones who improved music big time. The Beatles will always remain the band that people can enjoy this list. I mean Nirvana is not the greatest rock band but they made a huge impact with their grunge music.

Urban Hat€monger ? 02-27-2012 07:14 PM

Piss off, I'm already trolling this thread.

You're not needed

LoathsomePete 02-27-2012 07:40 PM

He's trolling the thread because there's really nothing else to do. It's a VH1 list, I called 8 out of the 10 for the top 10 before even clicking on the thread link.

But if you really have some desire to know why Alice in Chains was left off the list it's because they already filled the list with their two token metal bands.

I don't know, maybe it's just personal preference but Alice in Chains seemed to put out a lot better work than Nirvana did imo.

It's because lists like this are really biased.

Norg 02-27-2012 08:35 PM

u know we should try and make a MUsic banter 100 greatest artist of ALL TIME to counter this filth !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

i think because AIC must of pissed off VH1 some how

i did notice there was aloootttt of RNB and Funk and American Rock on this list

MEtal ,RAP, indie ,electronic and others totally got ****ted on

Goofle 02-27-2012 09:25 PM

Jay Z is the highest ranked rapper... Nuff said.

Antonio 02-27-2012 11:05 PM

most of this list makes me want to punch a wall.
then punch a baby.
then punch a wall made of babies.

Unknown Soldier 02-28-2012 02:35 AM

I don't think the list woeful, but what is woeful is the way they do these lists. I mean if they stated why each band was worthy of its place, then it would be far more interesting to comment on.

Thread closed because it blows. A monkey on crack could come up with a better list.

I'm sure they had some big VH1 special where celebrity has-beens make small talk about how each artist made an impact on their personal life. :thumb:

I'm with Pedestrian, seen enough greatest artists lists to not be bothered by this one. Also, as long as threads are made and the lists discussed, VH1 will keep churning them out. So you're better off ignoring it then biting the bait.

Paedantic Basterd 02-28-2012 10:55 AM

Is anyone supportive of having one official thread for all of these outrage threads on mainstream music lists?

Urban Hat€monger ? 02-28-2012 10:56 AM

Nahhh

We need some joke threads in the music forum.

James 02-28-2012 11:01 AM

It always seems these lists just think "Quick, we need a reggae artist! Bob Marley!" "What about something modern for the kids?" "Sure, we'll stick some Beyonce on there!".
Absolutely dire.

Salami 02-28-2012 11:25 AM

It looks to me like someone trying their best to name 100 artists, and running out of ideas pretty early on. I mean, they have the Beatles and John Lennon on the same list. That precious extra space could have gone to one of hundreds of other merit worthy people, yet they chose to heap yet more glory on the same person.

And I really don't get the fuss over these lists: are they trying to tell us which bands we should check out? Everyone has probably been bored to death by most of the bands here, so a conclusive guide to artists everyone has already heard of is a shit idea, patronising and very condescending, and I'm glad people are trolling this :thumb:

I agree with whoever said on the first page: "I couldn't give two shits". In fact I couldn't give a single shit about which 100 artists they've heard of and think are cool. I don't even care if they are good, I've been there and heard them already.

Unknown Soldier 02-28-2012 11:31 AM

Lots of my favourite artists are on this list, so I'm glad its been kept open.

True, but I don't even care to be honest. We've all heard of them anyway, and the sort of person ho hasn't is unlikely to be interested.
A lot of my favourite artists are up there, but when I saw Coldplay up there with Judas Priest, I lost faith in their judgement.

blastingas10 02-28-2012 12:03 PM

Definitely a very stupid list

Coldplay let any list down.

It's essentially the presence of bands with such uninspired, forgettable and pathetic songwriting and unambitious instrumentation that shows that making songs that appeal to everyone is considered a criterion for being a "great" artist.

I won't stop saying that until my furious Coldplay review gets over 1000 views.

It is for me what makes lists like these so irritating.

blastingas10 02-28-2012 02:01 PM

Everyone knows that Eminem and Beyonce are better than The Band

14232949 02-28-2012 02:07 PM

There's really no need to get angry over a list like this.
It was created for people who watch VH1, did you expect there to be underground artists on there or something?

The list was made to appeal to their demographic, who genuinely do rate people like Michael Jackson as 'the greatest artists of all time'

blastingas10 02-28-2012 02:13 PM

I think MJ belongs quite a bit further down on the list.

Norg 02-28-2012 02:18 PM

im telling u we should make a 100 list but none of us would agree on anything. Maybe like submit artist and have like the higher ups go over all the ideas, and make a list out of that LOL

WOuld

Esquivel
Frank Zappa
or
KORN

make the list :P ????

blastingas10 02-28-2012 02:21 PM

Let's do it. Has it been done before? We all can vote and the ranking will be based on who receives the most votes.

14232949 02-28-2012 02:23 PM

Yeah, with BlastingGas on this. I'm sure we could all submit our lists of top artists, the votes can be counted and a compilation created of the highest voted artists.
Anybody up for doing the counting?

Norg 02-28-2012 02:27 PM

some one with more cred tho should start it in another thread tho LOL

Really!!! Mentioning Frank Zappa and Korn in the same context.

blastingas10 02-28-2012 02:29 PM

That's the question. Someone had to count the musicbanter awards voting, though. Maybe it could be divided into multiple threads, each thread with a poll. Categorize each thread by genre of music, or by date. Maybe just have a pool of artists to choose from.
