I'm giving my vote to Claypool's cover. The original Escovedo songs are alright, and these covers do them some justice, but the original Animals is brilliant, as is the version that the Frog Brigade does.

I'm new to Escovedo. Never heard those songs before. I went and got the originals and dabbled around with it for a while and really enjoyed myself. Like Frownland, I feel that's not enough to stop the powerhouse of Les Claypool and friends. I like Claypool's version more than PF's, even (blasphemous?).
Anyone else checking out these albums? |

i've got that Les Claypool
they don't sound THAT different from the originals tentatively, my vote is going to Escovedo but lemme deliberate a bit wokeh:- Les Claypool - i find nothing really outstanding about this cover of an entire album, the original was as great as the way it is. Les' version adds nothing new to it, besides singing in a pretty irritating nasally quacky voice and that some of the solos are different. I mean, i'd rather take the Flaming Lips' cover of "Dark Side" over this any day, at the very least, it was different (not necessarily better) Por Vida - the sheer depth and variety of the musicians involved, gets some high marks for this. Lucinda Williams' cover is the perfect way to start ANY album. But the talent involved is immense - Howe Gelb, The Jayhawks and Calexico. even if you don't like Escovedo (which I surmise most of you probably haven't even heard most of the originals), this is a pretty good Americana album and showcases some of the best in the business. Okay, i hate the Sheila E. cover, as well as Los Lonely Boys, but "Broken Bottle" just wipes the floor.... Live Frogs - 1 Por Vida - 1

I just feel bad voting for my own recommendation, but that is how I feel. I think others might have not gotten a copy even still or aren't going to. Idunno.

Les Claypool is easily available on the Net, though he's not that anal about removing all links |

Despite a long wait, I think we've got as many votes as we're gonna get for this battle. Live Frogs will squeak by 2-1. So next, mankycaant brings us some assorted Nirvana covers.
