What's the best genre of music?

im a punk rock princess! but i had to vote Punk n not Rock although i love both!

Rap to me seems to be the best as well as the most miss understood music. The way the express themself I feel people say is wrong, like saying the world 'Fu*K' but to put meaning behind it.. it's the way they express themself. I think rap is the best.

I think every genre has good music, why does it always has to be about what's best?
In my opinion most music you see at MTV has nothing to do with Punk, Emo, Rock or Alternative. IT'S ALL POP Music ok, if you like you also may call it teenager rock.
If you want to find out about music go to small club and bars, that's the place where it all happens!!!!!
What you see at MTV or same kind of music stations is just a commercialized and poor ripp-off thang!!!!!!

Very tough question, and that's why there are so many genres, diversification baby. It's tougher than asking for your favorite color, for music is mood, passion, and emotion, and it just depends on where your head is at the moment.

^ good points. but favorite color is easy, orange all the way! I picked rock, punk, metal, indie and alternative. Those are just the ones that I listen to the most, but I can honestly say that there is at least one song that I love from each of these genres.

I agree with comments above, but I voted for Jazz, Blues (basis for almost all the others, and I play in a blues band) and Rock (I also play in a Rock band).

I would like to say that a "best" genre of music does not exist, and that this poll is based on mayority, so therefore what this poll basically is saying is that the genre that people like the most is the best?!?! What the hell??? ok just wanted to say this reminds me of racism....there is NO best, it is all a matter of opinion...

I'm all about hardcore and metal, so it makes since my favorite genre is metal-core. But thats too specific. Anyway, I messed up and shoulda put classical down as well. I love old school symphony also.

There is no "best genre of music". Most music you'll listen to has a blend of genres anyways, so you can't possibly lump everything into categories as you did.

I would pick rock, but a lot of rock is half arsed and so i would pick alternative. But alternative has a lot of queer artists trying to ditsy about with sounds so I cannot choose.

impossible to pick a "best" genre. i like elements of many genres- and "alternative" is too much of a loose term to class as a genre to me. rock, indie, electronica, blues, folk, punk, metal...

I said none of the above for this simple reason, there is no such thing as the best genre, every genre has something good to offer, and all have an equal amount of importance, they have nothing in common, so its impossible to compare, thats why i didn't vote, and i don't really have a favorite, i just like good music. :love:

My main genres of interest would be: soul, traditional ska & reggae, electro-pop, indie-pop, post-rock, psychobilly, 80s hXc punk, early screamo/emocore, and rap. I'm trying to find more nu-jazz and folk-rock bands through this site, but both respective forums are dead and Satch isn't around.
