I dont have VH1, MTV etc. so to me personally they dont really matter.

A good song is good regardless of how clever the video is.

I think OKGO are a good example of music videos still being relevant. They wouldn't be as popular as they are now if they didn't have interesting music videos. For example, pretty much everyone i know has seen:

I'm not sure it's as good as another song about love obsession like The Cars 'You Might Think', which arguably inspired a more inventive video as well as being a much better song. Decent music can inspire a decent video.

Music video's should complement and build upon the music; not the other way round. It seems common for many (but not all) modern top 40 artists to put more effort into making the music videos slick rather then the actual music. I'm making a pretty big generalisation here but watch mtv or whatever modern mainstream music channel you have and compare the videos to the music that accompanies it. Now which one do you believe showed more input?
