Default Ambient

I'm looking for ambient artists.
I'm new to the genre and do not know the sub-genres.

But any ambient bands would be grateful.
Don't list Streolab or The American Analog Set, I already adore them.

Thank you for your help.

Sorry for making such an obvious recommendation, but I quite like Brian Eno who is sometimes called the father of ambient music.

1/1 from his Music For Airports was co-composed by Robert Wyatt (and Rhett Davies) so that makes it a little more special

I second the Eno recommendation, 1-1 is one of the greatest pieces of music I've ever heard.

The Album Leaf is a great ambient band, some instrumental tracks some with vocals. Good album: In a Safe Place

If you like electronic with your ambient, Secede's Tryshasla is a great and unique album.

According to the wikipedia article, Music for Airports was installed at the Marine Air Terminal of New York’s LaGuardia Airport. I wonder if it's still there .. Coming to an airport and hearing Brian Eno would make me very happy.

Try Pop by Gas.

Also, Tim Hecker.

I second Tim Hecker, his most recent album Ravedeath 1972 (2011) is one of the best of the year, and his back catalog has a lot of really engaging ambient music.
