Default Similar Sound as Brand New

I Love Brand New. I would like some of you all to post bands that you feel have a very similar sound, as, I have found but one.

Please. No Dashboard Confessional, Jimmy Eats World, Death Cab for Cutie, Straylight Run, or Taking Back Sunday? If there is any left, I would Love to here them, thanks. Or, just post your favorite post-hardcore punk, folk punk, freak folk, or orgcore. No emo or screamo, pretty please?

Thrice, Manchester Orchestra are two that immediately come to mind

Are you looking for "Deja Entendu/Devil and God" Brand New or "Devil and God/Daisy" Brand New? That is, emo brand new or post-hardcore brand new?

All three are great, but, I really don't consider them emo. And, Manchester Orchestra and Thrice, I have them all and Love them as well. I was going to add MO to the list, but, nobody seems to compare the two but me. And, you now Thrice is freaking great. More post-hardcore than emo. Whatever source originally compared today's emo with php is flat silly. Original emo, yes, but it is pop now.

Any band you can compare to bands like Against Me!, Rise Against, Nothington, Alkaline Trio, Menzingers, and just a variety of various genres, folk punk, freak folk, and any punk turned folk soloist. I Dustin's solo, Frank Turner, Nightwatchman, Tim Barry, Chuck Ragan.

See what you can do here.

Alberta Cross
Crazy Arm
Mountain Goats
Blitzen Trapper
Cave Singers
Deer Tick
Cobra Skulls
Lucero
Middle Class Rut
mewithoutYou
Hold Steady
Attack in Black

Heard of these? I'm sure at least a few. I'm just digging for more music. I'm old, and after 40 years of Led Zeppelin, even they get stale. So, anything you think I might like I would appreciate.

thanks.

No Dillinger Four.....have em, but, not crazy for some reason.

i'm so glad i spent my formative years in the 90s....

a trip down memory lane.....and hopefully perhaps what your looking for

i didn't see any of these in your last.fm library

Texas Is The Reason

that breakdown is amazing (just get everything by them...one ep one album)

Fugazi

it's good to be the king (start with 13 songs.....climb out of that whole in about 7 months and contiue)

Rival Schools

this man should be worshiped (although their new album is quite good....it pale in comparison with United By Faith)

Quicksand

see what i mean? ('Slip'...possibly the greatest post hardcore album of all time)

Elliott

not 'smith'...better in my opinion (US Songs....over and over and over)

Farside

just grab any sampler from revelation records....specifically one released in the late 90s/early 00s (Rigged is a masterpiece)

Understand

seriously underrated band....and forgotten (the ep Bored Games is a great place to start)

Samiam

"emo"'s smarter older brother (92's Billy is damn near perfection)

Far

not including Far would be like Dally missing the rumble (water & solutions is the soundtrack to your next break up)

Jawbreaker

Jawbreaker is the best band that will be mentioned in this entire thread

see what i mean?

yup.....

enjoy

Gee. thanks a lot. I appreciate what you did here. Very kind. Texas is the Reason I am definitely going to grab them. Nice sound.

That is as far as I have gotten, although, I believe I have downloaded Jawbreaker before, I am not sure, so I got some listening to do.

Very nice gesture on your part. So, you notice my lastfm page. I'm well over half a hundred, and, very little classic rock. My 20 year old is in a band, and, he turned me on to a lot, and a lot of trial and error on my part. It's limited, but, it's getting larger slowly.

Thanks again dude, you went above and beyond for a stranger. The world could use more of you.

I'm on Fugazi now. I believe that this is what emo is supposed to sound like originally, is that correct? It does not have this sound now, so, i can see the notion of it being spun from PHP. Although I think Jawbreaker has some dude from Jets From Brazil. They are connected, am I correct? I deleted Jets from Brazil for some reason, I can't remember. On with the show.)

I'll give you some stuff I enjoy in that vein of emo/folk punk/screamo. I tend to like Emo Brand New more than post-hardcore Brand New so my recommendations will be closer to the emo side.

Empire! Empire! (I Was A Lonely Estate)

Football, Etc.

Joie De Vivre

Slingshot Dakota

Suis La Lune

The Saddest Landscape

Some folk punk now.

Ghost Mice

Wingnut Dishwashers Union

Paul Baribeau

Spoonboy

Andrew Jackson Jihad

Fairy Boy

Enjoy!

An artist that is similar to Brand New's album The Devil & God are Raging inside of me is Mineral. They're an indie emo band. Very different to the common punk/pop emo bands you find today.

Listen to an album called The Power of Failing. It's melodic loud guitar layers, intelligent lyrics and out of key vocals make this one a classic emo album.

Also check out Cap'n Jazz - They're the emo kings.

Okay Charlemagne. Thanks. Don't know the top bands. Screamo? My daughter loves it and emo, and I have found very little emo that doesn't sound poppy. Brand New is not emo in my book at all. Death Cab for Cutie, yes. But, you have a couple real winners on the bottom. I have AJJ, and a lot of folk punk, including Wingnut, Ghost Mice, although not a bunch. Spoonboy is okay. Paul Baribeau I believe I may still have one song, but, I thought he sucked

But, since it is folk, I will check them out for sure. You might try Defiance, Ohio, Nana Grizol, Coffee Project, and Michael Jordan Touchdown Pass. I'm surprised you didn't give me Mischief Brew.

I got to check, I hope you posted 'Rejoice'. That is one of my favorites. AJJ slays me

Thanks again, you're a nice person.

Ah I almost posted rejoice, I knew I should have I love that one too! I do know and love Defiance, Ohio, Michael Jordan Touchdown Pass and Mischief Brew. They just didn't cross my mind for some reason, although they are all some of my favorite bands. Do give some of the top bands a chance, they are different then what you might expect with what is generally perceived as modern "emo or screamo."
