Default Similar Sounding Songs

What are some of your favourite takes on older songs? I'm not talking about covers or even samples, but songs that are clearly influenced by another, whether it's meant or not.

Listening to this today,

this immediately came to mind:

I immediately think of this:

While the band was pretty cool about the pretty obvious "inspiration", their management was not and a pissing match between Killing Joke's manager and Nirvana's was created. It was kind of funny because Nirvana's manager apparently refuted the claim by saying that they had never heard of Killing Joke, just his band sent the members of Killing Joke all Christmas cards.

I've always thought "Buddy Holly" by Weezer sounded like "Cut Your Hair" by Pavement. The bridge has the same sort of tune I guess.

My wife was playing a Christmas music radio station and while I heard this song before several times it reminded me of Oh Darling by the Beatles.

Hit Me Baby One More Time and Oops...I Did It Again have like the exact same backing track (minor differences like HMB1MT's piano hook(which is like the best and most unique hook to any pop song probably ever)). Crazy is pretty similar too.

He sampled it, they get royalties. I hate it though. Just want to shove a silicone titty in his mouth and shut him up.

Don't forget Warren Zevon, but yeah, that's a worse ripoff idea than most.

There was a big conversation going on when Red Hot Chili Peppers released Stadium Arcadium, how the hit single Dani California was strikingly similar to Tom Petty's Last Dance with Mary Jane. I thought it was a bit of a stretch, but since it came to mind I thought I'd share it for your thoughts...

Off the top of my head...

Joy Division - A means to an end - YouTube

...has a verse melody that sounds like...

Well, Did You Evah - YouTube

Nick Cave - Are you the one that i've been waiting for - YouTube

...has a bridge (at 2:30ish) that sounds like the chorus of...

Scott Walker - Montague Terrace (in blue) - YouTube
