I Just Have To See Them Before I Die.

I am hoping that as a music loving forum and when time and finances permit, we all try to see live music whenever we can but who is on your 'bucket list' so to speak? There must be bands that you just absolutely HAVE to see and who are still doing gigs however intermittently?

It's not about bands that have passed or your ultimate band to see, just those on your hit list.

I consider myself quite lucky in that I have seen most of the bands/artists that I really want to see but here are a couple of gaps:

The Fall
AC/DC
Rage Against The Machine
Pink Floyd ( there are signs of a tour soon)
BB King
The Prodigy
Fink
Mars Volta
Black Sabbath ( may be solved next year  )

Paedantic Basterd 11-23-2011 06:45 PM

Radiohead. Pulp. Of Montreal. Arcade Fire. The National. Those would about do it.

jackhammer 11-23-2011 06:47 PM

Whoops I have put this in the wrong section! Sorry! Please move to general ;)

Radiohead is a good one. Another to my list!

neverasitseems 11-23-2011 07:00 PM

Radiohead would have to make my list, as well. Although, just about any live concert would do for me at this point, seeing as I've never been to a real one. (Being dragged to BSB doesn't count.. x_x) My parents recently saw Jackson Browne.. I was so irritated that it was a school night and I couldn't go..

Zer0 11-23-2011 07:10 PM

^ I've seen RATM, The Prodigy and Arcade Fire :D

I haven't been to a proper gig in over a year so there's tons of bands I really want to see. But I guess those that I really want to see before I die are as follows:

My Bloody Valentine
Radiohead
Pixies
Sonic Youth
The Cure
Dinosaur Jr.
The Stone Roses
The Flaming Lips

captaincaptain 11-23-2011 08:05 PM

I knocked three of my list this year. Neil Young, The Black Keys, and The Flaming Lips.

I would still like to see:

David Bowie
Pink Floyd
Of Montreal
U2
Prince
The Hives
Girl Talk

RVCA 11-23-2011 08:40 PM

Yeah, I'd kill to see Bowie or Pink Floyd... talk about legendary

Mrd00d 11-23-2011 08:44 PM

Well I knocked Rage Against the Machine out in 2008 at Rock the Bells, and Rush last year.

Still looking to get to:

Tool, first and foremost, because every time they came through they sell out in under 15 seconds, literally. Damn scalper companies!

I could go for DJ Shadow too. I've never seen a show posted until it's too late.

Buckethead
John Zorn
Mike Patton
Bill Laswell
Bootsy Collins

captaincaptain 11-23-2011 08:49 PM

I forgot to add

Rush
Pearl Jam
and
Nickelback, but only to see them dead

Alfred 11-23-2011 09:19 PM

Oh dear, there are way too many bands I want to see that I haven't seen yet.

Godspeed You! Black Emperor
Genghis Tron
Lagwagon
65daysofstatic
The Mars Volta
The Dillinger Escape Plan

...those are just the first ones that come to mind.

Lee's threads are always the best:

Wu-Tang Clan (although it wouldn't be the same w/o dirty)
Blackstar
De La Soul
ATCQ
Hieroglyphics
Little Brother
Nas/Outkast (before the commercial success)

Charlemagne 11-23-2011 10:26 PM

Oh man so many...
Sufjan Stevens
Iron & Wine
The Decemberists
Defiance, Ohio
Ghost Mice
Jason Anderson
Into It. Over It
The Tallest Man On Earth.

To name a few.

Were on my list, but I got to cross 'em off. They still deserve to be on it though. I'd see them a hundred times.

SATCHMO 11-23-2011 11:34 PM

Am I the only one here that's seen Pink Floyd? I saw them in 94'. It was honestly the best live music experience of my life. I don't know that there's anyone else on my bucket list. Slayer maybe?

I'm lucky I've seen Hiero together, as well as separately, multiple times. A Plus and Del tour the most these days, but I got Pep Love, Casual, and Opio under my belt as well. It's good to have lived in the Bay Area!

no you're not the only one....i saw them the same year on The Division Bell Tour :).....it was without Waters though.....so i would say that if they were to reform with Waters.....i would go out of my way to see them again

some one up there mentioned Prince and AC/DC.....both are defiantly on my list as well as

Bain Wolfkind
Der Blutharsch and the infinite church of the leading hand (i've seen Der Blutharsch but not the psychedelic version of the band)
Seven That Spells
Rome
The Cure (i can't believe i've never seen the Cure!)
Divorce (i envy you STU!!!!)
Dernière Volonté
New Order
Woven Hand

i am sure there are many more....i listen to quite a few stuck up European bands who refuse to come over here....although it happens every now and then....

Ferrari5180 11-24-2011 09:16 AM

I would like to see many bands before I die, but I am still fairly young so hopefully I'll have a chance. Right now, all I could think of is Anberlin, Amon Amarth, Megadeth and Incubus.

That was Gilmour, Wright and Mason at the time, right?

I got to see Roger Waters play DSOTM five years ago and it had to be one of the most mind-blowing concerts I've seen, even to this day. Shame I had nosebleed seats...

I'd still love to see a 3/4 reunion at some point but I'm not holding my breath. These guys probably have grandkids my age by now...though I know for a fact Gilmour still retains all his chops.

FETCHER. 11-24-2011 10:21 AM

Justice
Daft Punk
Boys Noize

Pretty much. Hundreds more but most all have a member missing from the band.

captaincaptain 11-24-2011 11:16 AM

With some of these older artists, it's more like I just have to see them before they die.

___ 11-24-2011 05:00 PM

Patti Smith, for sure. I was so close twice; First when I was in New York City. And She wasn't performing with her band the second time, but she was speaking in Flint, Michigan. It's difficult to catch a performance because she is out of the U.S most of time.

I think that's it, Bright Eyes was on the list but I caught the last show when they were on tour in September.

Wait, I lied.

She & Him, also.

Okay, I'm done.

Floyd DID play a few songs together at a charity event in June and it went well apparently. Nick Mason went as far as saying that there is a chance that they do some gigs as a 3 piece (obviously Rick Wright won't be there!) with every penny going to charity. No new music, no nostalgia trips and milking the public, just a band getting together for those of us unlucky enough not to see them before and raising money for charity. Can't say fairer than that apart from the ticket prices. I reckon it will be well over £150 a ticket.

Good shouts for The Cure and De La Soul.

Wouldn't mind checking out Public Enemy (if they ever got around to gigging again) and going to a decent club with a DJ set from the likes of Krafty Kuts.

Beastie Boys
Tom Waits
Jimmy Cliff
Toots and the Maytals

are a couple of artists I would like to see.

Sneer 11-24-2011 07:53 PM

Radiohead, My Bloody Valentine, Boards of Canada, GY!BE

That's it really. There are tons of acts I'd give a pinky to see, but those three I'd kill for the privilege.

many on the list are very old, and if you do not hurry, you will entirely loose the chance.

Worse, it looks like there are not good replacements.

Insane Guest 11-25-2011 01:23 PM

Pink Floyd (I'll get to see Roger Waters' The Wall next year which I'm already ****ing excited about)
The Smiths
Black Sabbath (Next Year)
System of a Down
The Misfits (w/ Danzig)
Kalmah
The Chemical Brothers
The Strokes
Dethklok
The Mars Volta
Queens of the Stone Age
Placebo

Saw their very last show with Thomas Pridgen a couple years ago, it was fucking awesome except for this fat dude in front of us that smelled like a mix of dead skunk and weed

But for me it's probably Thrice, mewithoutYou, or The Appleseed Cast. I missed TAC last August cause the venue is always 18+ but this show wasn't for some reason, and I didn't find out till after. Still pissed

I think that's a pretty good list! There are always the types who'll accuse Pink Floyd of being pretentious because of the way the run their concerts (workmen building a wall as they play, that weird globe thing... etc) but I just think that you are really getting your money's worth, regardless of whether or not you like their music. I'd rate them as the best band to see live, even if you hate Pink Floyd. I hope you get to see them soon!

ThePhanastasio 11-25-2011 03:38 PM

God, there's a lot. Most important to me right now, though:

DoseOne / 13 & God / Themselves / Anything with DoseOne, really
Radiohead
Bob Dylan
Elvis Costello
The Arcade Fire
The Flaming Lips
Busdriver
Leonard Cohen
MBV

EDIT: Oh! And Richard Thompson.

Necromancer 11-26-2011 06:42 PM

I would be satisfied just seeing Rik Emmett (singer, guitarist, songwriter) for the Canadian band Triumph live.

My guess is Rik Emmett has an outstanding live performance.

Dr.Seussicide 11-26-2011 06:54 PM

I have to see The Decemberists before I die. I don't what I'd do with myself if I heard Engine Driver live :')

I also need to see Bright Eyes, Rufus Wainwright, Pedro the Lion, Moving Mountains and The Saddest Landscape.

Sneer 11-26-2011 08:55 PM

I want to add Calla to my small list.

RMR 11-27-2011 01:07 PM

The Mars Volta, Radiohead, and Pink Floyd have already been mentioned, and they would definitely be on my list. I'm assuming we're only including acts we haven't already seen and not repeats...

I would also add:
Iron Maiden-- their live performances are raved about
Bad Religion
Van Der Graaf Generator
Porcupine Tree
King Crimson-- if they crank out another album and tour again

Queen Boo 11-27-2011 04:39 PM

Gallows.

Oh wait. :(

chiaroscuro 11-27-2011 10:20 PM

Definitely Radiohead. Coldplay too! :)

I saw Gang of Four open for Public Enemy who opened for Sisters of Mercy in '91 when PE was in their prime. It was amazing.

I ran spotlight on Toots Hibbert about 10 years ago for one of their shows in NY. :P Great performance

Melvins and Animal Collective. Although I have heard AC are disappointing live.

Sleater-Kinney (They just have to get back together. They just have to.)
Bon Iver
Arcade Fire
