Hey y'all. The topic is self explanatory. I'm looking to pick up the bass soon, and I absolutely adore the sounds of the one used in the song id engager by of montreal. It's kind of a disco-sounding, funk bass. Sorry if this isn't in the right category, I didn't really know where else to post this. Thanks in advance!

I have to confess that I googled this, but I think it's a rickenbacker.

if you want a disco-ish funk sounding bass, you're better off with a Fender Precision

that song depended on the player, not on the instrument

Thanks, y'all. I'll look into both.
I figured some of the sounds were also caused by the bassist themself, but it did have a different sound from your usual electric bass. Hopefully I can learn how to play like that in time.

Kevin Barnes has written some of the best ever basslines. That said, it's definitely got a unique timbre to it.

EDIT: Learn the bassline of Id Engager or Gronlandic Edit or something, and play it on the different models you're looking at, see what you like best.
