Does smoking Marijuana make music better?
I always thought that being stoned made music better when I was smoking a lot, but ever since I stopped smoking as much that thought has been validated even more. Since I'm sober most of the time, My occasional toke these days just really makes me think "damn, music really does sound better when I'm high." It enhances your senses and really deepens the way you hear music. It causes you to notice little things that you normally wouldn't, makes every little aspect of the music really stand out and just causes you to hear it in a way that you normally wouldn't. Music is still amazing when you're sober, I'm not saying it isn't. Maybe weed really doesn't make music better, maybe it just causes you to realize how great it is even more than you would when you're sober.
What do you guys think? |
I've heard that it varies from person to person. I honestly can't say with 100% certainty since I don't smoke marijuana.
|
I find that when i smoke and listen to music, I can actually hear every single part of the music playing individually. If I focus, i can do the same when I'm sober, but I do think it's much easier to hear stoned. Actually, i think weed in general makes focusing on some things easier (except math).

I think if weed can make sex better, it can make music better. They both rely on senses, which weed can make clearer. Just stay away from "Sour Diesel". That won't make you enjoy music at all.
|
Whenever I am investigating new music, I like to drink a beer or two.
It somehow makes me more open minded, it makes the music more intense. I hear things I might overhear on a completely sober first listen. |
Music makes weed better.

Being someone who rarely smokes anymore, I'm not really biased on the subject. I dont have the "Mary Jane is the only girl you need" mentality. I really do think that weed does something that causes your brain to perceive music in a different way, I'm sure there is some science to it. |
Yes. Yes it does.

It makes me play like a dope, forget things, eat everything in sight, jump the drummer's girlfriend, etc.
So, yes! |

I've always wondered that, since weed supposedly makes everything better, wouldn't it then make everyday life that much more boring?

I honestly don't think so. If you can't listen to something sober, maybe you don't like it. I do not smoke weed at all, and NEVER listen to real music when I drink.
The few times I do drink(maybe once every other week or so), ****ty bar music sounds fun as ****. Yet, I realize it's more me being a drunk idiot than legitimately noticing something about the music. With that said, one could also argue, I probably listen to significantly more advanced layered difficult music than the average pothead, and feel no further need for assistance than I already have. |

Hooray for sobriety...

It's sort of like downloading FLAC when you know you're happy with 256kbs. You might as well save memory.

i can only say the only music that sounds better on weed is reggae, especially dub, it seems to flow with whatever frequency your brainwaves are on weed - the kind of push/pull effect - it's like your mind is having a conversation with the music Quote:
in any event, some of my meds do get me high as a side-effect, neways |
To say whether or not it's better or worse is completely subjective. To say that it's "different", however, is undeniable.
I mean, Hell, your mind processes music differently when you're in different moods, tired, super-alert...anything. I don't think that being on any drug is necessary or even undeniably conducive to any music listening experience. I'm just saying that it's a different way to experience music, and I'm a fan of having as many experiences as is humanly possible. To each his/her own. As an aside: I've found that while stoned, the sort of music I've been drawn to as a positive experience has been acoustic, melodically complex, or rhythmic. Stoned jazz is actually something I particularly enjoy, although I'm a huge fan of jazz while sober or under the influence of other non-cannabis substances. Not so big on it drunk. |
I think it also helps my guitar playing. It helps me relax and I tend to feel it a little more when I'm high, instead of thinking too much.
I think this explains it, listening to your favorite tunes increases the flow of dopamine to your brain, weed also increases that flow. Therefore when you're listening to music, the dopamine is flowing, then when you smoke, the dopamine begins to flow even more, and that results in double the pleasure.:pimp: To sum this up, listening to music causes dopamine to flow to your brain. And getting high does as well. When you're listening to music and getting high there is more dopamine flowing to your brain as opposed to if you were just doing one without the other. Makes sense to me. |
