Officially the best band to ever see live were the Who in the 1960s and 1970s, they seem to top nearly every "best ever live act" poll.

I've always thought it odd that what a lot of people consider to be "the best live act" doesn't usually offer you the opportunity to actually be anywhere near the band, but rather revolves around the production and stage effects. IMO, the best live show I've ever been to gave me the chance to be packed 150 kids deep in a very small, very acoustic basement only 3 feet from the group. Being able to hop on stage with the actual performers and scream your head off is basically what makes shows worthwhile to me, or just the fact that you're there more as a means of being a part of something rather than all the standing and waiting, then finally getting to watch the act from afar. More often than not the musics better too :)

Thats a band I would've liked to have seen in concert, except for when Keith Moon was to fucked up to play. Like their concert in Cleveland when Moon passed out on stage and they had to retrieve a drummer from the audience.

The Who definitely had to be one of the best live concerts to see back in the day.;)

I went to the midnight movies in 1980 tripping my a&s off, and watched "The Wall". I swore I saw Satan:) And, the first time I saw them in concert, I dove to the floor when the pig flew over the stadium. Acid, not shrooms. And, tequila.

And I would say that The Allman Brothers were the best band to see live, and still is one of the best live bands.

Did you ever get a chance to see Stevie Ray Vaughan? Three times, and, he was arguably the best live performer I have ever seen.

Based on watching them perform live on the "Isle of Wight" dvd and the 2 songs that were shown on the "Woodstock" film, I`d say from a neutral perspective they were the band to see live, even more so than Zeppelin.
