Maybe I just need to hear more of his music but I saw Buckhead in concert and he bored the shit out of me.

That's intersting. I was front row and it was a hell of a show. I was even lucky enough to score a toy when he busted out his bag of toys.

The only buckethead song I knew before was "Whitewash", which is a great song, but going by the songs in this thread I gotta go with Hendrix. I don't know how you can listen to him and not consider him an emotional guitar player.

However, you could say he was an early pioneer of noise rock. His use of guitar feedback (along with The Monks and VU) as well as atonality and dissonance were vital in its creation.
take a good listen to this and tell me that this isn't the earliest instance of "shoegaze":-

I wonder if people are really in awe from Jimi Hendrix's "emotion" only because it's him. There are other guitarists who have more emotion than him. Most people judge emotion without understanding that every artist expresses their emotion differently. Jimi Hendrix just expressed it in a more accessible way.

Yngwie Malmsteen, Buckethead, Jimmy Page, David Gilmour and a couple others show more emotion and passion than Jimi. They just show it in a manner less accessible.

I fully admit that there are A LOT of guitarists more emotional than Hendrix, it's not like he's one of my favorites or anything. I just still believe that his playing can easily be described as emotional.

It does get annoying though when people don't understand that just because an artist doesn't jive around that he's not showing emotion. You never see Opera singers grabbing their crotch and humping the floor but that doesn't mean they're not showing emotion.

Buckethead doesn't jump around or pick his guitar like he's trying to light a match but if you listen to his music there's undoubtedly buckets (no pun intended) full of emotion.

I'm not familiar with Buckethead, aside from his association with Axl Rose and seeing pictures of him looking ridiculous with a bucket on his head-I promise I will check his music out when I get a chance. I'm more familiar with Hendrix and in all my years as a music fan (I'm 46 with a 4000+ cd collection), I've never seen Hendrix not be listed first in a list of the greatest guitarists of all time. Most of his contemporaries adored him, most subsequent guitarists learned from him and current guitarists have a greatly expanded musical vocabulary because of him. I'd like to hear Buckethead's opinion-my guess is, he wouldn't say he was superior to Jimi. Unless he's a douche. I've never been a big fan of Hendrix or Vai or Satriani, but there is no disputing they are all talented, gifted players and if Buckethead is among their company, I salute him-But I probably won't buy many of his recordings, either. My guitar gods are; Dick Dale, Django, Mark Knopfler, Pat Methany, Ralph Towner, Brian May, Phil Keaggy, and Joe Pass-though none of them play the kind of music that Jimmy and/or Mr. Buckethead play, soit's hard to compare.

Phil Keaggy is awesome man.

Check out these videos of Buckethead and see if you like him.
