Default The 2011 Music Banter Secret Santa Event (Signups Closed)

Welcome to the 2011 Music Banter Secret Santa event! A fun way for all of us here at Music Banter to take part in festive, non-denominational sharing. What better way to show someone you kinda like them than to give them some great music to take into the next year? Or show 'em you think they're a prick, send them Lou Reed and Metallica! IT'LL BE FUN.

Signups are starting really fucking early so I can have lots of time to run the event! Hooray time management!

HOW IT'S GONNA GO

  1. If you'd like to sign up, tell us you're in and post a link to your RYM, LastFM, or list your favourite albums. Sign-ups end DECEMBER 1st.
  2. Users will each be given a random Giftee who they will carefully select an album for that they believe their Giftee will enjoy. BACK UP RECOMMENDATIONS APPRECIATED, just in case the album's been heard!
  3. This album is to be PMed back to me with a download link, and the name of the person it is for no later than DECEMBER 19th.
  4. On DECEMBER 25th I will send each user their gift album, after which they can listen at their leisure, try and guess who sent it to them, and post a brief review (100-250 words) of how they enjoyed it.
  5. On January 1st I will reveal who all of the partners were and you can see how well you guessed it!

Anyways, yea, I'll sign up... Here's my RYM (it's lacking, but eh): Dead_Ed

This is a great idea.

In order to prevent people from receiving albums they already listen to, I will cross check the recommendations best I can without revealing any of the surprises, then ask the Gifter to suggest a new album if their Giftee's already heard it.

This is why lastFM and RYM are important: Because I'm not telepathic, and I am gonna need help making sure this works out!

Thanks guys. This will work best with a crapload of people, but it's going to need at least 5 to go off at all.

The more the merrier. HA HA BLOODY HA.

Edit: I'm not sure I'll have internet this time next month, so I'm sad to say I need to drop out. Last thing I want to do is dick somebody on a Secret Santa. Maybe next year...

I'll go ahead, and check in. One question, though. Why random giftee? Why not an album for everyone else on the list?

I don't have last.FM, or RYM, and I don't have time to come up with a list. So, I'll just put a link to what I have in my 'music tastes' on facebook. It's pretty comprehensive to what I have listened to, and haven't:

Cline Shevat | Facebook

Most anything I've liked it on there. If you have something that's not on there, that works.

Dustin Hoffman and John Travolta declined the role for the same reason. When Al Pacino was considered for the role of John Rambo, he turned it down when his request that Rambo be more of a madman was rejected.

Traditionally Secret Santa events are done for large groups of lazy and poor people who simply can't deal with thoughtfully giving gifts to everyone at their workplace or group of friends.

The idea is that this one album you recommend is going to be very carefully thought of for the person you're gifting, in hopes that they'll really enjoy it.

I won't stop anybody who wants to give out lots of albums to others! But I'm thinking that not everyone has the time to review lots of albums, or come up with lots of albums to share. I don't want to give anybody a bigger workload than they wish to have this internet holiday season.
