The 2011 Music Banter Secret Santa Event (Signups Closed)
 

In order to prevent people from receiving albums they already listen to, I will cross check the recommendations best I can without revealing any of the surprises, then ask the Gifter to suggest a new album if their Giftee's already heard it.

This is why lastFM and RYM are important: Because I'm not telepathic, and I am gonna need help making sure this works out!

I don't have last.FM, or RYM, and I don't have time to come up with a list. So, I'll just put a link to what I have in my 'music tastes' on facebook. It's pretty comprehensive to what I have listened to, and haven't:

Traditionally Secret Santa events are done for large groups of lazy and poor people who simply can't deal with thoughtfully giving gifts to everyone at their workplace or group of friends. :laughing:

The idea is that this one album you recommend is going to be very carefully thought of for the person you're gifting, in hopes that they'll really enjoy it.

I won't stop anybody who wants to give out lots of albums to others! But I'm thinking that not everyone has the time to review lots of albums, or come up with lots of albums to share. I don't want to give anybody a bigger workload than they wish to have this internet holiday season.

I thinking I'm an idiot or just missing something here (probably the former :wave:), but how will the recipient download the album? Do we purchase the album for them and then upload the songs somehow for download. No one else is asking this, so I'm clearly the only one missing this... just want to make sure I understand.

You can find a pre-existing download link on google.

Can I possibly join in? I don't have RYM or lastFM, nor do I know what to list for favourite albums, but from what I've seen of the site so far, I'm most likely not going to run across much that I have listened to.

If you can compile something that will give your Gifter an idea what you would enjoy, be my guest. We don't know you well enough yet to have a good inclination what you're going to like, and it would probably be difficult for whoever received your name.

There's a week left to sign up, so take your time to think about it, and go forth and post!

Okadoke. So, I really don't know what to put as my favourite albums, and I probably won't within the next week since it's constantly changing, so would it work if I just say what I told you earlier which is my current top played on my ipod? He Is We, Chicago, Explosions in the Sky, and John Mayer.
