I went to see Ulcerate last night at a nice small venue. Their brand of complex, off-kilter death metal sounded really great live. The drummer in particular was amazing. Zhrine opened. I had never heard them before but they were great live. Atmospheric, extremely dynamic black metal with an upright bass. What's not to like?

This was the set William Basinski played when I saw him.

Were you at that one or was it just the same music?

I saw Savoy Brown recently. Founding member Kim Simmonds with his two band mates of the past few years (Pat DeSalvo and Garnet Grimm) playing a power trio set of blues based jazz & rock songs from the past and present. Still going strong after all these years and sounding as good as ever. Some photos in B&W, and a couple of videos (one in B&W and another in color) from the show.

Went to see blues guitarist Tinsley Ellis recently. Just Tinsley with a bass player and a drummer. Their first show of 2017 and they drove up all the way from Atlanta, GA to kick off their tour. He played some songs from his new album along with various covers and originals. Great show from start to finish!

Went to see local funk/soul/blues singer, songwriter, guitarist, Willie J. Laws and his band a couple of nights ago. A few cover songs and mostly originals from the band. They were playing a lot of new material from an upcoming album which has yet to be released. Great show from a great local group.
