Magma – Tickets – Wonder Ballroom – Portland, OR – March 19th, 2016 | Wonder Ballroom
They're in Seattle tonight, other dated in the link above. Needless to say CV and crew were phenomenal, I do hope they replace whoever mixed the sound. By "replace" I mean sack & set on fire. But it was still amazing to see 'em, even the horrid mix couldn't prevent me from being astonished from the level of musicianship last night. Highlights included Üdü Ẁüdü and Mëkanïk Dëstruktïẁ Kömmandöh. W00T |

The Cure w/ The Twilight Sad Shoreline Amphitheater Mountain View CA The Cure, Depeche Mode and Bauhaus are more or less the three bands i got into at the same time in 1989 that started a long and fruitful love for underground music. I was able to see Depeche Mode in 1990 and Bauhaus on their 1998 reunion tour but have not seen the Cure until last Thursday The Twilight Sad was very good....a VERY Scottish blend of indie rock, darkwave, and even some real brit pop type stuff....they had a great presence considering who they were opening for...could you imagine being the band that The Cure asks to open for them on their North American tour....what an honor to be asked but it must suck knowing everyone in the audience just wants you to hurry the fuck up so was waiting 27 years worth it? YES. would i jump at any chance to see them again? IN A HEARTBEAT (i was debating whether or not i can afford the 8 hour driver to Salt Lake City to see them again and then realized i had some pretty big plans that day ) just to start off....Robert Smith and Simon Gallup are both pushing 60 and acted like 20 year olds....Gallup was jumping off the monitors the entire show and seemed to never run out of energy while smith danced around when not playing the guitar i've been so obsessed with this show that since their frist show on the tour i've eagerly looking at the set list for each show....and it has been fucking amazing....each show has been a combination of Disintegration, older classics, and several rare b sides....they played one of my all time favorite songs, The Exploding Boy, several times before making it to the bay area alas...they did not play The Exploding Boy....but They did play a 35 song set that included 3 encores the last of which was 6 songs long and honestly could not have been better (Dressing Up, The Lovecats, Hot! Hot! Hot, The Caterpillar, Close To Me, Why can't I Be You?, and ending the night with Boys Don't Cry) That alone would have made this trip worth it. honestly their set list was perfect....a great combination of Disintegration, classic Cure cuts and surprising rare compilation tracks and b sides....i can honestly say that this may be the first time i watched a band play for over three hours and almost cried when the lights of the venue turned on i was able to hold my own until the played A Forest and then tears of joy went streaming down my face...i highly suggest catching them if you can....this was by far the best $40 i have ever spent to see a live band and honestly next to Jesus and Mary Chain playing Psychocandy and seeing Kraftwerk this was one of the best shows of my adult life |

Sleep with Windhand
Sleep didn't say anything and they didn't play an encore but they were amazing. Segments of Dopesmoker were sprinkled throughout their set and deep, deep heaviness was abundant. Windhand were great too. Seeing them live made me really appreciate how much the bassist is the driving force behind their songs and I enjoyed the singer's very low key stage presence. |
