I had never even heard of Unsea before this show and they were amazing. I'd describe them as somewhere between Earth and Electric Wizard but with black metal vocals. Very, very good. I was duly impressed.

Then Ufomammut, on their first North American tour incidentally, took the stage and blew my fucking mind right out the back of my head. I can't even begin to describe how awesome they were, they managed to sound totally different than they do on their albums yet absolutely fantastic nonetheless. They were so unbelievably tight and so incredibly heavy my brain struggled to even process the awesomeness that was taking place before me. Really, it was incredible, one of the best shows I've been to in the past decade. 3/4 of the members of Unsea even came up where we were standing and starting going nuts during Ufomammut's set, their bass player going off telling me how amazing he thought Ufomammut were. It's rare that I say this, but I really didn't want the set to end, I could have listened to Ufomammut for many, many more hours. In the end, all I could do was go shake Urlo's hand and say, "Amazing! Amazing!"
Ufomammut made me feel ill, in the best way possible.

Ufomammut
Usnea
Lycus
Church

An amazing night of pure doom!...what a treat to not be he only person in the room wearing all black and a shirt with Satanic imagery

i was able to purchase four amazing gig posters all signed and numbered....and had a really good conversation with the Vita...the drummer of Ufomammut....about everything from present day Italy to their amazing art collective Malleus....which ended with a firm handshake and a laugh as he thanked me for all the money i've given him

local band Church started it off....they were pretty good....female fronted doom metal....and she could really hold her own.....a little dramatic for my taste

Lycus was a real treat....really heavy funeral doom...with a hilarious sample about killing yourself and leaving Ayn Rand propaganda littered around your house

I 100% agree with Jaszoon on Usnea.....seriously mind blowing doom/black metal...loud as fuck and just incredibly heavy....also a group of real stand up guys....

then the shit got real

Ufomammut was by far one of the best live bands i have ever seen....just played flawlessly and were very humble to the audience...there really is something to be said about seeing doom metal live...they also had these amazing pedal boards that change their guitars into almost moog sounds....seriously amazing....also the bass players set list consisted of nothing but upside down crosses and pentagrams

i highly suggest you catch these giants while their still small

Tonight I saw Earth, Wind & Fire with Chicago. There's no denying that both bands are filled with skilled musicians who played well. There's also no denying that both of them bored the shit out of me. On the plus side there were some amusing drunk people around, including the woman who ran by me laughing with a shit stain up and down the crack of the tight white jeans she was wearing.

Earth, Wind & Fire bled into the gig I was at maybe a football field away. September played while Killer Mike was talking about race relations.
