I had kind of a bad show experience as well last weekend. I went to see Weedeater at Kung Fu Necktie, a small venue I usually love, but it was way, way too crowded there for this show. It was super hot and so packed that I ended up stuck in the bar area in a spot where I could barely see any of the stage and I didn't even notice when Weedeater started playing at first. They seemed like they were good I guess, as far as I could tell. The opener King Parrot seemed really good. But I just felt very removed from the whole thing because of ultra hot, ultra crowded environment. |

I recently saw a show with Muck and the Mires, Barrence Whitfield & the Savages, and The Sonics. Muck and the Mires opened the sold-out show with some rather mediocre 60's style garage rock followed by a typically energetic R&B (real R&B, not the watered down pop which gets passed off as R&B these days) set from Barrence Whitfield & the Savages. The Sonics came on stage to wild applause and tore through a solid set of rowdy garage rock covers and originals. All in all, a worthwhile triple bill for $25 on a Friday night.

Yeah I thought The Alley was the bottom of the barrel for acoustics and sound engineering but then I went to Cargo and found a whole new level of hell.
Sorry the show wasn't great. My old English professor was there and he said the sound was pretty bad too. |

i only went to the Alley once and it was horrible....bad sound and scum bag bartenders...i think someone bought it and plans to re-open it...at least every time i go to the Great Basin there seems to be people in there.....with luck they'll address the acoustics
as for the Cargo....i think they put way to much shit in there for the size of the place....those speakers on each side of the stage are damn near arena size |
