Default Intros

When your iPod is on shuffle, sometimes a song comes up that makes you think “I AM going to listen to this”, regardless of whether you like the band or not. I’m talking about intros that get you hooked on listening to the rest of the song. We all know songs that do the opposite, but that’s a different topic. I thought that sharing each other’s personal favourite intros may open the door to a brighter and more enjoyable future of music listening.

Please note: I am not asking for our “Favourite Songs”. That would be resurrecting a tired old concept. I’m trying to explore a subtler aspect of music listening.
Here are some of mine (NOT necessarily my favourite songs):

“Another Girl Another Planet” – The Only Ones: The guitar intro to this is so simple, but every note just seems to promise excitement.

“Wanted Dead or Alive” – Bon Jovi: I love this intro so much I took up guitar just to learn how to play this!

“Just” – Radiohead: This is so spooky! Apparently Johnny and Ed were having a competition as to who could cram in the most chords.

“First Of The Gang To Die” – Morrissey: WTF? Why do I like this?

“Cocaine” – Eric Clapton: Really sets the mood for the song.

Some Intro's just make you want to listen the entire song.
When the rest of the song sucks, it's such a huge disappointment.
You think 'this can't go wrong' and then it does.
I prefer simple intro's, somehow.
Some intro's that immediately grab me:

Talking about the Blue Oyster Cult, I forgot to mention this:

Not an instant "wow" intro but 'I wanna be adored' by the stone roses is amazing.

Atmospheric noise, thumping bassline, enigmatic guitar and emphatic drums. Excellent.

It takes about 1 and a half minutes to get to the good stuff, but it still rocks. Here's the video:

Bit like the long version of 'Elephant Stone' in that regard.

If 'The Passenger' comes on you don't skip.

To be honest, pretty much anything by the Stone Roses has an awesome intro.

I love a good intro

If the opening sample and introduction of the main riff doesn't grab your attention I don't know what will.

If you listen to the guitar in the intro you just know it's going to be a good song and it certainly does not disappoint.

Sets the tone of the song straight away.

I 'adore' this song. I must pop it on my iPod.

Erm,
