The intro to "Kids" by Sleigh Bells always gets me pumped up. "Tangerine" by Big Boi and "Vireo's Eye" by Future Islands also come to mind.

Anyway, I'm not posting this purely because it is a fantastic song, I think it really makes a great impression from the start: |
Also, any Marvin Gaye song where there's talking at the beginning (What's Goin On and Got To Give It Up, for instance), the drums and feedback on Little Fury Things by Dinosaur Jr., and the aquatic submergence on In the Flowers by Animal Collective.

OMD's Tesla Girls has a great intro, always liked that one. It builds up the sound very nicely to where the vocal starts.

First 15 seconds are great, and it follow with a great song.
The Beach Boys - Hang on to Your Ego - YouTube One of my favorite intros: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4AuxJH2Mj30 Killer thundering bass line opens the song: whipping post - the allman brothers band - YouTube Amazing introduction based on Bach's Toccata and Fugue in D minor. People who don't know The Band, you need to give this a listen. The Band- Chest Fever (1968) - YouTube |
I have another one.
Warrant - Sometimes She Cries - YouTube Boom - the guitar hooks me and probably others. |
I love how urgent this intro is, the riffs are all pretty catchy, and then put together they sounds realy unique and cool. |
What always makes my day is the intro to ''Ship'' by Gnidrolog.
|
Possibly the trippiest intro I've ever encountered, really puts the "psych" in "psychadelic" :)

Anyone remember Salami ? Anyone remember sopsych ? Anyone remember this thread ?
I thought of it when I was reading posts by OH and elphenor, enthusing about Anthrax by Gang of Four, and yes, OH is right, this is a fabulous intro :- Solo guitar intros are among the best, and here's a good one from Joe Satriani:- Old school pulsing build-up: the Doors at their best:- https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vHXjcdNIN-Q |
