Music while studying
Which Music and artists would be good when you are studying and solving problems??......... The Music should be able to increase the concentration and remove distraction!!... Which are the artists and Music that would be good for this purpose??.......
|
I've always preferred listening to instrumental music while studying, I find that vocals can be a bit distracting while you are trying to think or solve problems. Usually a bit of post-rock, ambient or ambient electronica suits nicely, it does well to cut off your attention from the outside world yet doesn't distract you too much from what you are doing.
From what I've been told as well listening to classical music is good when trying to solve mathematics problems, it apparently stimulates the same brain patterns used when solving maths problems. |
I know this sounds weird, but Scott Joplin is the best for when it comes to doing anything which involves solving problems logically (maths / physics / chemistry), and anything creative requires something which sounds similar to the emotion you are trying to capture, eg. something a bit creepy would be helped by "Just" from Radiohead.

I recommend off the top of my head: Bluetech |
I recommend classical music. Especially Mozart's Piano Sonatas.

Ravi Shankar is pretty good for meditating and concentration for me. Tchaikovsky and Bach are good classical choices. I also like listening to Boards of Canada when studying because it's chill. For Jazz which is also good, I like Thelonious Monk and Chet Baker.

Rimsky-Korsokov might be a good choice. His music is very attention keeping yet rarely super thunderous. |
It's the time of year where I'm almost exclusively listening to post-rock to get through term papers.

I absolutely love this. It's a website that lets you overlay slow piano compositions on top of a constant "rainy day" effect to create the ultimate homework/studying atmosphere.
|
Music usually makes me concentrate on the music itself. Yes, music can distract the outside world sounds, yet it can't help me focus on study and solve problems.
|
I always pump music when studying. I zone out of the music and it sets me into study mode.
|
When studying I generally try and keep to the quieter stuff that are often instrumentals as well. For my favourite studying music I like Brian Eno's mid 70's albums. They have nice soothing synths that are good to listen to but they don't distract you if you are trying to concentrate on things other than the music.

I find most song-oriented music to be distracting. |
Someone said Ravi Shankar, and he's one of my options. Miles Davis and jazz in general work for me as well. But for the most part, it just have to be something I'm very familiar with. That way my mind can't wander because I won't be constantly interested in investigating what I just heard.

Tangerine Dream - Rubycon did it for me when I was an apprentice all those years ago.

Ambient and Drone seem to work wonders. Any of Brian Eno's Ambient catelogue is perfect for something to have in the background. If you really have to cram for a test Sunn O))) makes quiet an intense soundtrack.

Thanks for all the suggestion.. I really liked boards of canada scott joplin, brian eno very much... And Guys which artists would be good for ambient music and rock..
|
I always found in school that if I was writing, I couldn't listen to music with vocals, because it made it impossible to think. I could do math though.

I aslo found it difficult to study if the music had vocals. I usually listened to some post-rock, ambient or drone while studying. |
when i did my law degree (undergrad), i found extreme metal to be simulating for memory work - Carcass, Napalm Death etc
|
Il Duce, I wouldn't be able to breathe with some Norwegian cannibal bellowing down my ears, but you must obviously be made of tougher stuff than I am.
|
Merzbow. But you must do Merzbow proper; you do not crank the bass, oh no - you have the treble up to maximum volume. If you think your speakers are going to break, you're doing it right.
At first it's unsettling, but then.... it's the ultimate barrier to distraction. |

On a different note, I remember Talk Talk's post-rock albums (Spirit of Eden and Laughing Stock) helping me a lot with math. I was still shite at it, but it helped. |

Personally I find any music I know really well works. If I don't know it perfectly than I get distracted, but if its something I love and listen to a lot I can basically sing along without even focusing on it.
|
Oh I wish it was different but I can't possibly concentrate with music on. I know some of my friends do listen to classical music while studying but I've tried so many times... and failed :( Too bad really :(
|
I barely listen to music if I am studying as I find it distracts me from what I am doing as I tend to concentrate to much on it, perhaps sing a long and/or learn the vocals. I can listen to music I have over listened to in the past as it embeds itself into what I am doing as if it does not even exist.

I love to listen to City and Colour when doing homework. He is my favorite artist. I know his songs so much that they just mellow out with everything I am doing and relax me more than anything else. |
