When studying I generally try and keep to the quieter stuff that are often instrumentals as well. For my favourite studying music I like Brian Eno's mid 70's albums. They have nice soothing synths that are good to listen to but they don't distract you if you are trying to concentrate on things other than the music.

Someone said Ravi Shankar, and he's one of my options. Miles Davis and jazz in general work for me as well. But for the most part, it just have to be something I'm very familiar with. That way my mind can't wander because I won't be constantly interested in investigating what I just heard.
