When you make mixtapes do you just throw in songs you like and see how they come out, or do you meticulously choose a song, attempting to find ones that flow into each other or share similar themes? |

I try and make the tracks flow. Like on this one, I had Tribe first, which made sense as none of the others really had an opener feel. Then I try and see which song's intro best fits the ending of the last track. Sometimes there isn't a perfect flow, but I do try and make sense of it all.
I start with random tracks though. Never think about ordering before selecting tracks.

I'm too much of a perfectionist when it comes to mixtapes, which is why I maybe make 6 a year (also I'm a lazy bastard). I've been working on this minimalist electronic soundtrack for about 3 weeks now, but the songs I've selected just aren't clicking, but I don't really have much to choose from. I have this rule though, where I can't use songs from albums I don't own, so this is just kind of sitting on the back burner.
