Classic Rock: Led Zeppelin- Physical Graffiti
I grew up loving this album, and I still enjoy it today. Blues: Chulahoma- The Black Keys Dirty, sweaty, hypnotic blues. Absolutely nothing like their Inde-Garage sound. Jazz: Kind of Blue- Miles Davis Perfection. Pop: Breakfast in America- Supertramp This is how pop music should be. I thought about Elton John, but I like his singles more than his albums. Folk: Stormcock- Roy Harper Psychedelic folk epics, and yet so minimalist. Country: Live at San Quentin- Johnny Cash I don't like country; I like Johnny Cash. Punk: Kick Out the Jams- MC5 Not big into punk, but proto-punk is awesome. And this is its crown jewel. Modern Rock: Songs for the Deaf- Queens of the Stone Age Proof that you can rock hard and still have pop sensibility. Psychedelic/Trippy: Vanilla Fudge- Vanilla Fudge All 7 songs are covers, but it's amazing what happens when the Beatles, the Zombies, Sonny & Cher and the Supremes are played at half speed with heavy pyschedelic organ and Carmine Appice on drums. Hip-Hop: Public Enemy- Fear of a Black Planet and Dalek- Absence Two albums that emphasize the musical element of rap and it's importance. Ambient: The Fireman- Rushes Paul McCartney released this in 1999. It's very fluid, imaginative and nothing like Sir Paul has ever done before. Metal: Opeth- My Arms Your Hearse I like my metal proggy, so naturally Opeth is one of my favorite metal bands. |

Haha, I had a feeling I would get a response like this... I've always found The Beach Boys to be very gimmicky... and that album in particular, as beautiful as it is, can sound incredibly cheesy at times. I love every song on it, though...
By the way, thanks for introducing me to that Divine Styler album. I don't think I ever thanked you... (as you can see, it's up there in my list). |

There's no way I can truly pick one single album for each of these options, but after a few drinks my most spontaneous choice are...
Classic Rock: The Jimi Hendrix Experience—Are You Experienced? Blues: Taj Mahal—Giant Step/De Ole Folks at Home Jazz: Art Blakey Quintet—A Night At Birdland Vol. 1 Pop: Fleetwood Mac—Rumours Folk: Michelle Shocked—Short Sharp Shocked Country: Loretta Lynn—Van Lear Rose Punk: Circle Jerks—Group Sex Modern Rock: I have no idea what counts as "modern rock". How about Rocket from the Crypt—Live from Camp X-Ray? That's rock n roll from the past decade that's pretty fantastic, maybe it qualifies. Psychedelic/Trippy (aka any favorite trippy album): Alien Sex Fiend—Curse Reggae: Not sure, but whatever it is, it's probably by Toots and the Maytals. Hip-Hop: Mr. Lif—I, Phantom Electronic (yes I know this is painfully vague but who has the time to mention all sub-genres): Massive Attack—Mezzanine Guilty Pleasure: Everclear—So Much for the Afterglow Sorry but this is a great pop album. Any additional one Album (Include genre): Psychofagist—Il Secondo Tragico Some of the best avant/grindcore/jazz/weirdness I've ever heard. |
