I haven't got round to the Adele album yet, or the Beyonce and I never liked Sufjan Steven's music until his album last year which I thought was a good departure for him. Of course something needs to have some individuality, I don't disagree about that. But some things just try and be different for the sake of it I feel, and some things are ignored just because they don't sound completely new sounding. As for Radiohead, I would say most really popular bands outlast their welcome. It's very easy to keep catering to the same old audience and never take risks and normally that leads to creative sterility.

Is this sentence referring to Radiohead? because basically every album they've put out since OK Computer has seen them dramatically change sounds. Not something I would consider creative sterility (with the possible exception of KoL).

I'm not really a big Radiohead fan, the last consistent album they did I consider to be Kid A. Since then I think they have sounded pretty sterile.

Not in the slightest. To make a truly great album you have to think outside the box a little bit, and maybe that doesn't mean pioneering a new sound, but it does mean that you do things in a unique enough way that you stand above the crowd. Sufjan stevens is a good example. I'm not that fond of his music, but i respect it a hell of a lot more than i respect anything adele or beyonce has done. It's because he puts the effort in to be unique. Most really popular bands do have a sound that was at one point original to some degree. Radiohead wouldn't be where they are if all they did was remake pablo honey over and over again.
Post of the year.

No idea if it's "hip" or not, I just know I like that Tune-Yards album and have listened to it a lot in the past year. Therefore it make my list.

You might well, I know other people who liked it originally and have gone off it quite quickly.

8. Earth - Angels of Darkness, Demons of Light pt1
9. Bjork - Biophilia
10. the Joy Formidable - The Big Roar
11. ...Trail of Dead - Tao of the Dead
12. Mogwai - hardcore will never die....
13. 65DOS - silent Running
14. Jesu - Ascension
15. IAMX - Volatile Times
16. *Shels - Plains of the Purple Buffalo
17. Hooray for Earth - the true loves
