Default Learning musical instruments

Aside from knowing the basics has anyone experience in learning musical instruments by slowing down music?

I'm assuming you are talking about learning to play a song by slowing down the speed?
I used to do that back when there were records and cassettes only, learned many a Clapton solo that way, but of course slowing down the speed changed the key.

What is it you are trying to do?
