Have you heard The Rainbow Children? Probably his last genuinely great album for me. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TSmvjqr6ZVU Even with his recent albums (2000 onward) there are still gems on them all. |

I definitely think the older albums tend to be more consistently fun, but I agree that there's always some good songs on the 2000 onwards albums. A few even rule front to back. I really like the Planet Earth and Plectrum Electrum albums a lot in particular. I think I also like 3121 a lot, but I can't remember much from it now. |

Yeah I would agree mate.
His 80s albums are mostly top notch, from Dirty Mind to Lovesexy there is not a dud album in there. Not even if you add The Black Album and Dream Factory. Then there are albums like Apollonia 6, the first three Sheila E albums, the albums for The Time (first three)... His last three were pretty good too. Sad to think that since he died, enough time has gone now to know that we would almost certainly have got another Prince album by now. |

Interesting story (at least I think so anyway). I used to go bar hopping with my cousin back in the eighties. Now he was a metal head and into all the glam metal groups of the day (I was more of a college rock guy myself). For some reason he was really into Prince. Or at least that's what I thought. He told me later he only listened to Prince to pick up girls. No one could accuse him of not being shallow.
As for me, I wasn't a fanatical Prince fan, but I did like the 1999 and Purple Rain albums and some assorted songs here and there later on. It was fun to hear VH1 refer to him as 'The Artist Formerly known as Prince' for awhile. He was a character. |
