Warrant singer Jani Lane found dead
Jani Lane -- former lead singer of the rock band Warrant -- was found dead at a hotel in L.A. Thursday evening ... TMZ has learned.
Lane's body was discovered at the Comfort Inn hotel in Woodland Hills, CA. So far, no official cause of death has been released. Lane famously penned the band's biggest hit "Cherry Pie" back in 1989 before eventually leaving the band to pursue a solo career. Lane had a history of alcohol-related issues -- he was ordered to serve 120 days in jail after he was arrested for DUI in 2010, his second DUI in two years. Lane was 47. (from TMZ) Can't post any links yet (I'm under 15 posts), but you can find it online...it's a trending search topic right now. |
He kind of reminded me of a cross between Brett Michael and John Elway, but he did pen some very memorable hair metal tunes. I think this was one of the better ones from that period. Bitch all you want about the hair and catchy pop-metal, at least they got some good looking women at their concerts!

I like it even today.:hphones: |
Blind Faith and Sometimes She Cries weren't bad either.
But Down Boys is really good. Cherry Pie is a good song as well. Despite its cheesiness, it was a well-written song, and I think it's sad that Jani Lane's whole career was based on that song. Besides, if Paul McCartney can write "Ebony and Ivory" and not be judged by it, why can't anyone else write a corny song for fun? The double standard of all that really bugs me. |
Sometimes She Cries and Uncle Tom's Cabin were just as good as Heaven, in my opinion.
Authorities suspect a combination of alcohol and prescription medications. |
Was never a Warrant fan, but some of their music was pretty cool. RIP.

Uncle Tom's cabin, cherry pie and bed of roses were my favorities from warrant
R.I.P. indeed |
I hadn't noticed his singing is best on "Sometimes She Cries," but you're right, it is. I like the mix of emotions in the songs I mentioned. Probably Jani Lane had a lot of emotional turmoil. Now wondering how much alcohol abuse damages the vocal cords....
