I believe they were very modest when they first started out, it didn't make people bitch about them any less...

Along with Radiohead, they're the biggest (and to me the best) band in the world today, so fuck modesty...

And really, I don't see anything particularly cocky about what Martin is saying, he's proud of some material he wrote and wants other people to hear it, wow, let's pin him to a cross...

Um, no he doesn't, those are two completely different things.
Also, where exactly does he promise classic material on every album his band makes? I only got "classic Coldplay material" from the title, again, entirely different matter....
