are there any good oldies stations anymore?

when i was a kid oldies meant 50s and 60s music. now u can't hear any 50s or early 60s music anymore and 70s crap like elton john and billy joel (which belongs on a soft rock station) is getting played instead. plus fleetwood mac and other classic rock staples. hell my local oldies station has even started playing 80s music. ugh.
whatever happened to real oldies music? i guess it's dead

Write you congressman.

djchameleon 06-29-2011 03:10 AM

do as oojay says or you could you know get a satellite radio and i'm pretty sure they have more authentic oldies stations on there.

Howard the Duck 06-29-2011 06:53 AM

satellite oldies stations in my area only play as far back as the 60s

There used to be station called 97.3 KBSG (which I always liked to say because it was fun when they extended the numbers and "g") but sadly that's not on anymore. My mom and my aunt loved that station..

As for you, I don't have a solution to help you listen in the car but online there's some stations. radio-stations.fm came up, not many to select from either...

It's pretty lame that music from the 50s and 60s aren't playing on local stations anymore.

TV is still free.

Ben Butler 06-29-2011 12:49 PM

There are a lot of 'oldies' stations as you put it still around on the radio.

ThePhanastasio 06-29-2011 01:30 PM

We had a really good oldies station up until last year. Then it turned into this:

B97.1

Used to be I'd turn it on and hear Bobby Darin, Frank Sinatra, The Ronettes, and that sort of thing. Now, it's like Springsteen, Billy Joel, some 80s, and I even heard ****ing Nirvana on there once.

Sounds like it's time to leave the boondocks.

Captain Ron 06-29-2011 02:51 PM

yeah they switched over to digital signals so if people don't have the right tv or they still have bunny ears, they aren't going to receive a signal

The government were giving away vouchers for the digital converters up to the switch. They also extended the deadline a few times.

I have bunny ears and am able to receive a digital signal. I don't have cable, this is how I watch TV.

:confused::confused::confused:

really? that's why they were giving out those black boxes a little while ago, maybe your tv is a bit newer and doesn't require it to be able to translate the digital from analog.

he might be rolling with an older tv.

Yes, it's a newer TV. That doesn't change the fact that I watch can watch TV for free via bunny ears or the fact that anyone with an older TV who simply used one of those government vouchers can do the same.

well that's the point I was making, maybe he didn't get the voucher for his older tv and it could be completely possible that he lives out in the boonies.

Some people that used to be able to get the channels before that lived out in the boonies couldn't get them once it switched over even with their newer tvs....they'd only get pbs and vaguely cbs but it wasn't strong

That's the thing with digital signals, you either get them or you don't. There's no inbetween where it comes in half-ass or blurry.

Yeah, that's easily the most annoying thing about it.
