True story: I actually downloaded a Malmsteen album earlier today because of this thread. So far it's pretty disappointing. I was actually hoping for more shredding and classical-esque playing but it seems to basically be cock rock with highly technical bridges.

Which album? I can recommend you something more suitable. Eclipse is fantastic but it is basically what you said. Rising Force is pretty much awesome instrumentals all the way through though.

It's Facing the Animal. So you'd say Rising Force is more worth my while?

Considerably. Facing The Animal is one of his less...celebrated...efforts. My favourites are Rising Force, Oddysey, and Eclipse. The latter two are less like what you're looking for though. Much more 80's cheese.

Rising force though...I'm surprised you didn't go straight for that. Its basically THE Yngwie Malmsteen album. Its his Led Zep 4, his OK Computer, his Slim Shady LP.

I'll check that one out. I only downloaded Facing the Animal because I read that the second Yngwie video in the this thread was from one of the songs on that album.

Many would argue Led Zep 4 was not there greatest album. Nor the most influential.

Yeah, but the point was made, accuracy of the implication is moot.

Rising Force is his magnum opus

then again, i've past my shred phase long ago, i only listen to Satriani and Vai these days cos they at least know how to write a melody
