ZZ Top's Beardless Frank Beard
 

I would like to know why Frank BEARD of ZZ Top does not have a beard. Therefore I will dedicate this thread to putting forth an effort to finding out this eternal question.

Any theories or facts/rumors would be very welcome.

While a goatee is technically a beard, anyone whom is a proponent of beards knows they are half assed lazy excuses for thos who will not commit.

So I reopen this thread and challenge you to find me a picture of Mr Beard with a full beard.

It's more of a goatee.

I think Frank Beard simply enjoys irony.

So far Id have to agree with Oojay in that it would simply be too much beard for Frank to handle if it was grown out. The bands health and sanity must be taken into account in matters like this.

Hill and Gibbons don't seem to mind. While they do provide a nice symmetry that Frank would only screw up by growing a beard, they also provide additional irony in that their last names are not Beard.

Well I found this pretty funny. This is the first sentence on Franks Wiki Page:

Frank Lee Beard (born June 11, 1949) in Frankston, Texas is the beardless drummer in the rock band ZZ Top. Beard was formerly with the bands The Cellar Dwellars, who originally were a three-piece band, The Hustlers, The Warlocks, and American Blues[1] before starting to play and record with Billy Gibbons and Dusty Hill as ZZ Top.

Its no doubt 99-1 in favor of the clean shaven or goatee faced Frank. But the main fact that really drove this thread home was the option of him never having had a photographed beard, which would show he intentionally did not grow one out of fear or other unknown reasons.

Maybe he doesn't really like beards then?

@ Urban, thats a good example. Tonight when I get home I am going to browse in some more depth and find exactly how many pictures have a bearded Beard. That I believe is there first album so he probably wasnt thinking straight at the time. And by the second album chopped that off.

Quite possible. I have a last name that people have remarked on my whole life. It gets annoying.
But Frank Beard would be in a no-win situation... I mean... if he doesn't have a beard, people remark on it. If he does, people remark on it.

I should start a similar thread on Michael Ball.

Finding those pictures will prove difficult.

Me too, and what worse than hearing it over and over again is that they think they're being clever and are the first ones to think of it and expect me to find what they said as humorous.

I know something about this, because when I was a kid back in 80`s there used to be a music show on TV here in the UK on a Friday afternoon/evening called "The Tube", which used to feature a vast array of bands who performed a set of between maybe 3 to 6 songs each and most of these bands would also be interviewed as well. I remember ZZ Top being on there around 83 and 84 to promote their Eliminator album and also watching their interview. I specifically remember the interviewer asking Frank Beard why he didn`t have a beard and his reply was that when Billy and Dusty started to grow theirs back in the 70`s he did as well, but the problem was that his beard looked **** and didn`t grow thick and lush like theirs, so he decided to shave it off and never attempted to grow one again.

And that was the starightforward response he gave.

ZZ Top was trying to be funny. they failed. however if they ever see this thread i'm sure they'll laugh their asses off

look, Frank Beard doesn't have a beard merely because Dusty doesn't live on a hill nor does Billy hang out with Gibbons
